Recap:

“Good morning, students. Shall we begin?” asks our new mentor…whose face leaves me speechless.

How??!

Place: Styx Base Camp (SBC),

Styx Institute, the Moon

Time: October 5th, 2011------- 7:07 pm

Xavier’s POV

“But you… how… no way...!” Nick says. I can completely relate with his loss of words. I could never have guessed this would happen in a million years.

“Raven, how did you get here?” Andria finally asks. Raven, seeing us all puzzled, lets a ghost of a smile escape her lips. She is clearly pleased to see our misery.

“I am glad to see you guys alive too.” She says. “You didn’t think I was going to ditch you guys completely on this quest, did you? I mean, believe it or not, I AM your mentor, you know?”

“Well, we were going to come looking for you nonetheless.” Andria objects.

“We were? Didn’t Cypher say something about her telling him about us? I thought her job was only getting us up to here.” I say.

“You wish kiddos. If I were to leave the whole mission to you, we would’ve failed already.” She says, again with a hint of a smile. I hate to admit it, but I am a little happy to see her. Another familiar face gives me a boost of hope. Maybe we will be able to get out of this one alive after all.

“Okay so, what’s the plan? How do we get out of here and kick some Cypher butt and save Quinn?” Nick asks. But, before Raven can answer, Nick’s stomach growls. Nick holds up his hand, “But first, what’s for breakfast?” I can’t help but chuckle along with the others. It has been a while since we have laughed together. Since we found out about Quinn.

Zak’s POV

“They want me to train you guys for one week. Then, they will make you do a test in which they will decide which rank to give you. Cypher has around a hundred body guards--- the top hundred fighters in all of Styx. Together they can take on the rest of Styx and win without a scratch. The guys outside are training for the same test as you.”

“So we will have to follow this same schedule for a week?” Xavier asks.

“Yes. And I can’t do anything to change that.” She replies calmly.

“Okay. Then, what?” I question.

“On the day of your test, you will be in the same stadium as many other candidates. Sapphire will be with you, but it will be much easier for you to get away with so many people around you. I will be there too. You will have to leave from there and go to the top floor of Cypher’s private stadium. He is planning on having a meeting there. About October 15th – the day Cypher plans on doing something big. Your job is to find out what it is that he is doing and report to me. We will leave the Stadium and teleport to Earth. Sound good?”

“What about Quinn?!” we all demand in unison.

“Look. As hard it is for me to tell you guys, Quinn is probably dead. Finding him is not the purpose of this mission. The only reason we told you about Quinn and said there was hope to find him was because we needed you guys. You guys are still young and any person can see you have not been trained properly. No one would doubt or question you. We needed you.”

“You used us.” Andria says with every word dripping of hatred. “You took advantage of us by lying to us. You were only doing this to get you stupid mission over with. You used us as lab rats. It doesn’t matter to you if we died on the mission. We were not trained anyway. Without our trainer, there was no one there to help us. You took advantage of our position. And we always thought you were the good guys.”

“Think what you want. Just remember, that if you abandon this mission now, many innocent people can die. ‘The ends justify the means.’ We did what we had to, to protect thousands of innocent lives. It is your choice if you want to go waste it all for one man.” Raven replies calmly as if she knew this was going to happen all along. It looked like she had her lines rehearsed. “You know, Quinn would want you to continue the mission the way it is supposed to go.”

We all look away. We all know…

She is right.
