Salaam aleikum every one. This is my first time writing hoping that will bear with me. Enjoy..
Leaving
I
walked into my brother's room and plopped onto his bed.
He was busy playing computer games on his laptop, he didn't seem to notice he had company.
I threw a pillow at him and only then did he notice me.
"Ow" he frowned at me and rubbed the back of his head.
I stuck out my tongue at him and swung my legs out of the bed and started collecting stuff,
clothes,
books,
waste paper that was scattered all over the room
(my brother is so messy).I sat on the bed and said what I had been wanting to tell him for quite some time.
"Joshua, I'm leaving "
" OK ... "he replied probably thinking that it was leaving his room.
" I'm leaving church.
I am going to be a Muslim"Now that got his attention.
He looked at me shocked.
" What????? "
" Yeah Joshua. I'm converting. "
He paused the game he was playing and came to sit next to me.
" Eva, what are you saying? When did this happen? "
there was real concern in his voice.
" Like 6 months ago? "I answered with a nervous smile.
" And you didn't think to tell me? he asked.
His face didn't have a clear expression it looked like something between hurt and anger.
" I didn't think I would get here, I'm sorry "
throwing my hands up desperately.I looked at my brother with pleading eyes.
"OK then. Tell me now" he told me looking into my eyes as if trying to understand what was going on with me.
"Well it started when I heard something at the hospital. I heard Achmed, you remember him, saying it. Even though he was really young he was so
sure of what he was saying I had to know more. "" So you want to change religions because of something a 6 year old said? "he asked with this look on his face that said, seriously?
" Joshua will you listen or will you just sit there judging me?"
I said quite loudly trying very hard to hold back my tears.
"Sorry Eva I am listening now... "he said calming me down.
" Achmed was very sick he wasn't getting better. Then one day I heard him telling another child that he was not afraid to die because Allah was with him. He was always happy and cheerful despite his failing health, and it was because of this Allah he was talking about.
So I asked his mother about
it... "I stopped when I felt a warm liquid on my cheeks and realized I was crying." Shh don't cry "he said wiping away my tears with his thumb
" Aisha, that's her name Achmed's mother? "
" Yes that's her.
She started telling me things about Allah and Islam, I did my own research and now I'm here, wanting to convert... "
