At 9, Robin opens her eyes. She wasn't awoken by screaming, which was great because that meant that she wasn't going to get hit by her mother. That's what usually happens in a situation like this, so she was a little concerned as to why it didn't happen.

She walked out into the hall. The house was dark. Not unusual. Still, she could smell the marijuana, but she couldn't smell the sulfur anymore.

Since she woke up, she knew that it'd be a while before she went to sleep, so she went and got comfortable on the couch. Turning on the television, it was left on Law and Order. Currently, they were trying to figure out a brutal crime, where they found a person mutilated; deeps gashes all over the body, purple and yellow bruises, two broken ribs, a broken arm, and a cracked skull. The person didn't survive.

Robin hated Law and Order, so she started channel surfing. Clicking the remote, she went through TCM, Animal Planet, Travel Channel, Fox, and Freeform. Finally, she settled on watching the local news. When it came on, they were busy talking about a person a few counties over who won the lottery- $16 million. Lucky, she thought to herself. If she won, she knew exactly what she'd do. She would get out of this hell hole.

Then, the camera view switched to the showroom, with the anchorman. She started listening.

"Thank you, Helen. Now, some gruesome news coming from the nearby countryside. Sally?" the anchorman said.

"Thank you, Ed. Bill Tanning is a local farmer who raises cattle, pigs, and chickens for slaughter. A few days ago, he was tending to his cows when he noticed blood on the grass. He walked further out into the field, where he found six of his cows dead. Bill, would you like to tell us about this?" Sally addresses the farmer.

"Yes I would. So, like you said, I was out feeding the cattle when I noticed blood all over the grass. This obviously wasn't normal, so I was thinking to myself, 'What happened?' And that's when I saw several large mounds on the grass, so I walked over to check them out. I knew what they were, but I mean, I still needed to see. When I got over there, I just about puked. The cows looked disgusting. Their guts were spilling out everywhere. I'm sure no animal did this. I think a person did this. Will you guys try to figure it out?" He had a Texan accent, and a long drawl.

"We won't, but I'm sure the police department will be out from Flagstaff to investigate in a few days."

"Thank you so much. I don't want any more of my cattle to die, ya know, before they have to. I need them all, and this has been a great loss because they were some of my most productive females."

"You're welcome, Bill," she looks back at the camera. "There have also been three other similar attacks on cattle at other farms. Now, Ed in the showroom has our next story. Ed?" Sally says to apparently no one, but Ed immediately responds.

"Thank you, Sally. Very unfortunate," he pauses and shakes his head, then looks back at the camera. "A very exciting story in downtown today. Philly's Clubs is becoming a chain!"

Robin starts tuning him out and thinking of the cattle mutilation. That sounds terrible she thinks. Why would someone do that? She gets up and goes to make herself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The peanut butter has gone bad; she can tell because the awful stench drifts into her nose. She throws it away. The only reason they still have it is because her mother refuses to throw food away. The jelly, however, is still fine. She has a jelly sandwich.

"And now, here's the weather. Pat, what's the word?" The sound of the newscaster draws her back to the television.

"On Thursday, it will be sunny, with a high of 96 degrees. On Friday though, the weather will take a turn for the worse. There will be electrical storms spanning through next Monday. The temperature..."

She stopped listening. There was a lot of lightening storms lately. She never got to go outside anymore, besides that she wasn't allowed outside anyways.

She stayed up for a little while longer, until she couldn't keep her eyes open. At 11, she got up and took a shower, then went to bed.
