I was just sitting on an old park swing. It was very peaceful. The sun was shining. There was a subtle breeze. There wasn't a walker in sight. If only the end of the world could be like this everyday.
I thought I was alone until I heard footsteps come up behind me. I had my gun ready. I turned around and there was a girl standing there. She looked to be about my age.
"Can I sit next to you?" she asked.
"Sure," I replied. She carefully sat on the swing next to me.
"What's your name?" I asked.
"Ava," she replied. "And yours?"
"Carl. Carl Grimes." She seemed really shy. "Are you by yourself? Or are you in a camp?"
"I'm with my sister and my best friend. We cleared out a few of the houses and we just thought we should be here." She had an odd look on her face. "What about you?"
"We had a camp." I paused. I didn't want to tell her about the Governor. "We got over-run." I lied. "We lost a few people and everyone got seperated. Now it's just me and my dad." That part was truthful.
"I'm sorry." She suddenly became really quiet. "I had a camp awhile ago. We were also over-run. I lost my brother and my parents. I almost lost my sister, but I grabbed her right before she was about to be bit."
Just like her, I suddenly became quiet. Although, I felt like I could open up to her. "I lost my mom before we were over-run. She was pregnant. We had a security breach and we got seperated from the rest. We had another girl with us. She went into labor while we were trapped in a room surrounded by walkers. I'm not sure why but she couldn't have her the natural way. So, the girl had to do a c-section to save the baby."
"Wow," Ava said. I could tell she was speechless. "Sounds like you've been through hell and back. Is the baby still alive?"
"We aren't sure." I was silent again. "When we were over-run, my dad and I found her carrier with blood stains. But I still have hope. Maybe someone in our group with bloody hands picked her up. But my dad has kind of lost it because he doesn't think she's alive."
"Maybe you've been through hell multiple times," she replied.
"Tell me about it." I really felt like she was the only person who understands me.
Out of the blue, a walker came out of the woods in front of us. She stood up and took her gun out. She aimed for its head and pulled the trigger.
I jumped out of the swing.
Suddenly, I was in my bed. My dad walked into the room. "Did you here the gunshot?" he asked.
"Yeah, it woke me up," I replied.
Where was the swing? Where was Ava? It suddenly hit me. It was all just a dream.
