twenty one

we fell in love

under the willow tree,

with branches flowing around us.

and we fell in love again

under the same roof,

even when we never fell out of love.

and the sky

was clear,

a pure mixture

of blues and greens

swirled together like a paintbrush stroke,

simply and artistically done.

and all those questions i asked myself,

the answer was clear

yet i was so oblivious

to what we had.

i missed seeing your eyes,

because i was wrong.

when i gazed into them,

i saw the stars,

the sun,

and the moon

mixed together

into the sky.

you weren't the embodiment of the sky,

you were the universe

and everything beyond.

you were a million galaxies,

exploding with light.

we promised a forever,

but our forever wasn't for eternity.

it was until the stars crashed to the earth,

until the sun lost its glow,

until the moon lost its aura.

i know that i think too much

and never the right things

when it's dark out.

i know that when i'm alone,

i think too much,

and often the wrong things.

and if nothing is set in stone,

if nothing is destined,

i'm still willing to

promise you our forever.

our eternity.
