Chapter 10:what’s crawled up your ass and died there

“Ariel, get up.” Someone shakes my shoulder and I let out a groan. They continue to shake me until I get up.

“What?” I mumble rubbing the sleep out of my eyes and sitting up.

Tristian is standing in front of me with a button up shirt and jeans on. “We’re leaving for church in thirty minutes, get up.” He says with a frown.

“Church? Are you serious?”

He narrows his eyes at me, “Yes, Cherry, I’m serious so get your ass up, or you’ll find it on the street.” He tells me and this is the first time I’ve seen him be really serious. He leaves my room slamming the door behind himself.

What did I do to piss him off?

I let out a groan before pulling the comforter off of myself and opening the closet where I’ve put my clothes. There’s one sundress and I put it on before going to the bathroom to freshen up.

When I go down the stairs everyone is already up and dressed; which is weird since everyone usually sleeps in.

“Come on, we’re running on a time limit, Chick.” Jessie says clapping her hands at me in an impatient manner.

Geez, what’s up with everyone this morning? Its just church.

Everyone piles into Liz’s truck, and the drive is short, not even five minutes. Liz pulls into the parking lot of a big brick church with a huge cross in the front lawn. Almost all of the parking spaces are filled, but Liz finds one. Everyone files out of the car, and I follow lead with less enthusiasm.

The inside of the church is huge and the pews are filled with people of every race chattering. I’ve only been to church a couple of times in my life, and it was all white, and there wasn’t as many people.

We sit in a pew towards the back of the church, and Tristian’s Uncle Bobby joins us. All the pews fill up and church begins. The choir sings and the congregation joins in, I guess its required or something to stand while they sing  because Jessie pulls me up by my arm with a glare on her face.

Congregation time comes along and everyone walks around the church to talk and hug. I stay in my seat and watch everyone else. I see Roman talking to some girl and Tristian is talking to his Uncle. I don’t see Liz and Jessie, but I’m sure they’re congregating. Some people smile at  me but I’m sure when I try to return them it looks like a grimace.

The preacher preaches some more and I zone out. Its not until Jessie thumps my arm that I realize church is over. Everyone lingers in the sanctuary and talk some more, and I let out a sigh. I’m ready to go home, they didn’t force me to go to church with them last Sunday.

Finally everyone is done talking and we head back home. I’m just about to go upstairs to my room when a house meeting is called.

I let out a sigh and backtrack to the living room. Everyone looks unhappy, so I sit down quietly.

“How long do you plan on staying here?” Roman asks me bluntly.

Are they kicking me out?

I shrug my shoulders, “I don’t know.”

“Well, we’re going to have to set some rules while you’re staying here.” He says pacing in front of me, “One, you need to pay bills like everyone else. Two, we go to church on Sundays so be up and ready, oh and don’t act so snobby at church.” He tells me with a shake of his head, “Three, you need to finish high school, or get a GED.”

I rub the back of my neck, “I can pay the bills, easily. I’m not a big church fan, and I graduated early.” I tell him with a frown.

“Well you better become a church fan.” Tristian says and I try not to roll my eyes.

I’m living with all these huge sinners, yet they attend church like they did in the biblical days.

“Okay, is this house meeting over yet?” I ask and everyone just looks at me.

“Ariel, babe,” Jessie says standing up and shaking her head, “I don’t know what’s crawled up your ass and died there, but you better bury it, because your attitude isn’t going to fly here.”

I go upstairs to my room and pull out my phone. The national news has been updated again, and the header is what has me so upset: California teenage model missing.

So people, I know you’re getting pissed off with Ariel, especially if you’re religous, since she was an ass about the church thing, but she was snobby, and a little bitchy at the beginning, it isn’t going to go away within 10 chapters. Yea, so heres the update. Its unedited. Also, if you don't understand why she's mad read the last paragraph again and think about it.
