Chapter 21: some ground rules

“We have to lay down some ground rules.” Is the first thing Roman says when we get back home from our morning out. I just thought about the fact that I ate a steak for breakfast. So many calories, I should probably..

“Ground rules, yea,” I say to Roman trying to get my mind off of what I was thinking about. I shouldn’t even come close to thinking about doing that.

But..

“What are you thinking about?” Roman asks snapping me completely out of my thoughts.

“Nothing,” I say and even though I can tell he doesn’t believe me, he drops it, for the time being. “Yea, so ground rules.”

“We’ll talk about it upstairs,” He says grabbing my wrist lightly, giving me butterflies, and I begin to think about if our deal is going to be good, or just drive me crazy. He pulls me upstairs into his room and locks the door behind us. I don’t blame him, no one in this house knocks, and if they do, they don’t even wait for you to invite them in, they do it themselves.

We both sit on the bed, but there’s space in between us. Roman turns his body so he’s looking at me, and I look back at him. He gets straight to the point, “First off, no feelings, obviously.” He says and I feel a pang in my chest. He should have said the no feelings things when I got here a month ago.

“Second off, we have to keep this between us only.” He says and again there’s a pang in my chest, but this time it’s because I’m hurt. I mean, I know he’s good looking, and out of my league. But he doesn’t want people to know that we’re hooking up. Guys usually brag about that stuff.

Roman lightly puts his finger under my chin and lifts it so that I can look into his eyes. “You’re beautiful Ariel, but still a minor, it’d be easier if we kept things quiet.” He says and I feel the corner of my lips tip up at his comment about me being beautiful.

I feel better now, knowing why he wants to keep us a secret.

“We can see other people.” I say feeling like I need to add something to the table.

Roman looks at me for a while and something runs through his head, but I can’t tell what it is, he finally nods his head. “Yea, but you can’t see Issach though.” He says.

“Issach’s the only other guy that I know in this town that I’m interested in.” I tell him crossing my arms over my chest.

“He left you while you were piss drunk at a party, someone could have taken advantage of you.” He says with a frown on his face, and I can tell he’s really mad.

“It was an accident.” I say defending Issach.
