SETTING: FLASHBACK. A hallway. There is a single door.
AT RISE: CASSIA and HAZEL are standing outside the door, and CASSIA knocks.
CASSIA: Willow? Are you there?
(HAZEL knocks on the door, but receives no answer.)
HAZEL: The door's unlocked. Willow, we're coming in.
SETTING: WILLOW's bedroom, simple, some pictures of the friends around, a computer and a desk. The room is bathed with sunlight. The window is open and there's a breeze coming through. The curtains are billowing and a silhouetted figure can be seen behind the curtain.
HAZEL: Willow? We came to pick up our stuff from our last sleepover. Hey, why do you have the window open?
CASSIA: Gosh, it's so cold outside. Here, let me close it--
(CASSIA walks over to the window and attempts to get near but WILLOW pushes her away. WILLOW recoils a bit, then puts on a faint smile.)
WILLOW: Sorry Cassia, I didn't hear you come in. I wasn't paying attention.
(WILLOW takes a ragged breath and hands HAZEL a cardboard box.)
I have your stuff right here. (pause) My parents are coming home soon. I think you'd better leave.
HAZEL: Oh, okay...
(HAZEL takes the box and exits with CASSIA. WILLOW writes on a piece of paper in a rush.)
CASSIA: Hey, did she seem okay?
HAZEL: I don't know, her breath was raggedy and she was just standing there near the window in her nightclothes. She didn't notice us come in.
CASSIA: ...I'm going to check on her again.
(CASSIA reenters the room, followed by HAZEL. WILLOW stands perched on the windowsill. HAZEL sees her and freezes.)
HAZEL: Willow, what are you doing?
(WILLOW is silent.)
CASSIA: Hazel, don't you realize it? I thought something was going on with you and now my suspicions are confirmed. (slowly, and emotionally) You're trying to leave us aren't you, Willow? Forever?
(HAZEL pauses in realization, and she and CASSIA rush to the window.)
HAZEL: (quickly, urgently) Willow, no, don't jump, wait, we can talk about it, you have so much to live for--
WILLOW: (slowly and quietly) If I did, I wouldn't be standing here.
(WILLOW leans backwards and falls out through the window. Screams can be heard from below. HAZEL stands frozen at the window. CASSIA screams and crumples to the floor, sobbing. HAZEL slowly picks up the paper that WILLOW left on the ground.)
