SETTING: The classroom. There is a single flower in a vase atop WILLOW's desk.

AT RISE: The students are filing into the classroom.


(OLIVE, SOPHIE, and CASSIA take their seats.)

TEACHER: Class, today we honor the life of Willow Anderson. She died on January 3, 2017. She was a very talented and wonderful girl.

OLIVE: (quietly, but audible) Must be nice.

TEACHER: Olive, did you say something?

(OLIVE shakes her head.)

OLIVE: It was nothing.

TEACHER: Then let us have a moment of sil--

SOPHIE: Come on loser, share your thoughts with the class.

(OLIVE looks down in embarrassment.)

TEACHER: (sternly) Sophie! That was rude and disrespectful. Please apologize.

(SOPHIE rolls her eyes and leans back in her seat with a smirk. TEACHER sighs. The bell rings, and everyone stands up to leave. OLIVE's gaze seems to linger on the vase atop WILLOW's desk.)
