SETTING: The hallway.

AT RISE: HAZEL and CASSIA are walking down the hallway together in silence.

(OLIVE accidentally bumps into CASSIA, and in doing so, her stack of books is knocked ajar. She fumbles to steady them, and her wrists are visible as she does.)

OLIVE: Sorry...

(OLIVE quickly rushes off. CASSIA freezes.)

CASSIA: Oh my gosh.

HAZEL: What?

CASSIA: She had bruises and cuts on her arms, just like Willow.

HAZEL: Do you think what she said in class means she thinks it's nice to be dead? (pauses) We need to talk to her.

(HAZEL runs offstage, and CASSIA follows her.)

SETTING: Another hallway.

HAZEL: Wait, wait! Olive!

(OLIVE pushes through the crowd, but CASSIA grabs OLIVE's arm and stops her.)

CASSIA: Hey, Olive, can we talk?

(OLIVE jerks her arm away, wincing.)

OLIVE: I don't want to talk to you. I don't want to talk to anybody. You wouldn't understand anyway.

HAZEL: (quietly) But Willow would have. (at normal volume) Please, just let us listen. Sometimes just having somebody who'll listen can make everything better...

OLIVE: (taking a deep breath) I'm fine, nothing could be better.

HAZEL: Olive, we see that you're hurting. We can see those bruises and cuts on your arm. And we're not here to judge, we're here to help. To listen. To maybe save a life where we couldn't... last time.

OLIVE: I don't need you to take care of me. I don't need anyone. I don't want to be... a burden...

(OLIVE begins to tear up.)

CASSIA: Olive, you are not a burden to anyone. We couldn't be there for our friend last time, but this time we will. So will you let us listen? Will you let us be your friends?
