Chapter 4

Annabeth

Annabeth sprinted out of bed when she heard the alarm. Part of the reason was she that she couldn't get to sleep. After what she had witnessed in Tartarus she didn’t think that she could ever sleep again. On her way out of her room she passed a mirror, she did a double take, crindging away from the person looking back at her.

What she saw demonstrated exactly what she felt and it was gods awful. Her face had a hollow look to it. The slight California girl tan had been masked with pale sickly looking skin. Not like the death mist, that had shrouded her and Percy when they were in Tartarus, more like a I-see-my-nighmares-come-to-life pale. The confidence she radiated before venturing into the pit had turned into an aura of death. Although the death mist was thought to have worn off of her, she still felt the effects clinging to her body. She moved sluggishly and felt exhausted all the time. But taht could just be from sleep deprivation. What day didi hallucinations usually start? The thrid day, the fourth, she couldn't remember. Her blonde hair no longer had its trademark bounce to it, instead replaced looking like a rats nest. I’ll fix that later she thought. When she looked at her face her eyes looked sunken into her face, looking distraught and uncertain. Tartarus had changed her. But she was determined to find a way to get her old self back.

She backed away from the mirror and sprinted across the hallway to Percy’s room.

She noticed that the door was open a crack, which was strange because usually it was closed, like her own door. As she stepped into the room the salty sweet smell she had come to love surrounded her, making her smile as she said “Percy come on the others are all waiting outside for us to come and help.”

After a brief survey of the room she saw hoodies, T-Shirts, and sheets tossed around the place, wait was that blood on the covers? No she thought, it couldn’t be. After concluding Percy wasn’t here she though to her self where is my seaweed brain? With that she exited the room.

She decided that she was probably going to be the last one to reach the deck. So she held her ivory sword as she climbed the stairs two at a time. Then she pushed open the door leading to the deck.

Great she thought I’m the last one out.

It took her a moment to realize that there weren’t any monsters to fight. So she sheathed her ivory sword and walked over to where the others were. She was a little distraught because she hadn’t seen Percy yet and was wondering where he was.

When she joined the others she noticed what or rather whom they were staring at.

“PERCY.” She screamed.

He was the middle of the deck on his back shaking uncontrollably; it looked like he was having a seizure. Naturally she rushed forward trying to help, but Jason and Frank pulled her back. She started thrashing, swearing in Greek and crying simultaneously.

After a minute or so Percy stopped shaking, Jason and Frank released her and she ran towards her boyfriend, tears streaming down her face.
