Thanks to all who have read so far I'm happy to be putting out the second chapter. I know that the first chapter was very short. Oh well ENJOY THE UPDATE…

Chapter 2

Hazel

Jason and Leo’s turn for guard duty was finally over. Now it was her turn with Frank. As much as tried not to, she couldn’t help but feel happy, it was the first time in a long while that everyone was safe. Plus she would get to spend a few hours alone with Frank. Everyone had already agreed to let Annabeth and Percy have a few days break from guards duty considering they’d been though hell and back.

As Leo passed her on the stairs from the deck, she saw three claw marks on his left cheek, blood clotting around the edges as if the wounds weren’t fresh. She heard him mumble something along the lines of  “evil sea monkeys… looked fun… sharp claws…”. She thought wow, if this all happened during his watch with Jason, then what’ll happen during my watch with Frank?

Not five minutes in and they had already encountered a horde of Gryphons.

Hazel slashed and hacked at the Gryphons, not as precisely as Percy would’ve done, but she got her point across because the monsters were disintegrating. She was going to kill anything that came within her of reach.

After about twenty minutes of fighting, her spatha was becoming heavy in her hands. She looked over to see a Frank; he was a shape-shifting blur of animals. Come to mention it he had gotten so much better at shape shifting. Plus ever since his… um what would you call it… transformation, he had become more confident. Not just confident around her, but he wouldn’t doubt himself in battles like he used to. Part of her missed the old Frank, while another liked the new Frank.

She shook her head thinking, I can’t get distracted.

But the damage had been done.

In that split second two gryphons had swooped down, she swung her spatha but she knew it was too late.

Claws raked across her left shoulder, a beak snapped at her ear.

Pain. The only thing she could process was pain. She needed some ambrosia and nectar, but she couldn’t just leave Frank out here by himself. That would be really selfish.

So she fought through the pain. Two verse thirty how hard can it be she thought. As usual she thought too soon. She heard Frank scream in pain.

She realized what had happened, Frank must have been so focused on all the creatures in front of him that he wasn’t able to cover his back. One of the birds must have gotten him in the arm, distracting him, while another dived in for the kill. The gryphons had its beak stuck in Franks back.

She ran over to him shouting “ Frank, Frank are you ok?”.

He moaned in response. This wasn’t good she had to warn the others.

Evidently when you tell a certain Son of Poseidon that he doesn’t get to take watch, he wont listen and he’ll stay up, waiting for shouts of distress. Water erupted all around the ship. Encompassing us in a huge water dome. The water must have been spinning at some speed because the remaining gryphons couldn’t break through.

Percy said, “Go take Frank to the sick bay I can hold them for a while.”

She could see dark rings around his eyes. His eyes, that was one place she couldn’t stand looking at. Before his trip into Tartarus his eyes were a bright hopeful sea green. They radiated confidence and they were a little dreamy. But now they looked dull and broken.

She was a little guilty that Percy had, had to come to the rescue during his break, but the only thing she could think about was Frank.

Percy looked as if he knew what she was thinking but instead of giving a long explanation, he simple said, “Go now.”

Hazel was surprised but grateful. Promising herself that she would be quick about it. So she dropped Frank off in the infirmary, gave him a dribble of nectar, and set back out to the deck.

As she was walking up the stairs she suddenly felt a cold shiver run down her spine. Something was wrong and it had to do with Percy. So she jumped up the remaining three stairs and opened the doors that lead to the deck.

She couldn’t believe it, the time it had taken her to get Frank to the sick bay and come back out to help Percy something had gone very, very wrong. Instead of there being a strong watery dome shielding us, there was none and Percy was on the ground shaking uncontrollably.

Hazel was so surprised by the sight she didn’t know what to do.

Think she told her self, think. Then it came to her, she ran towards the control room and pressed the panic button. In less than a minute everyone was out on the deck, well except Frank but he was injured so that was excusable.
