It was the day before the night Daenah ascends. She had spent a week without going anywhere far from her house. A week that started to become a bore. So instead of doing nothing, she spent every day training. Hand to hand combat and strengthening her body. It was tiring but she enjoyed it. She may be a princess but her enthusiasm for fighting is of a warrior. None was more excited about watching her than the prince.
"It makes no sense," Adhemar spoke, "you are training to fight vampires, yet you are taking on werewolves."
"That sounds like a challenge," Daenah smiles and takes a fighting stance as she circles around Adhemar. She had a piece of wood in her hand, it wasn't sharp, it was just a tool she uses for practice. Everyone watched Adhemar carefully, anxious at the fact that Daenah is giving him a chance to hurt her. Adhemar disappeared and suddenly he was standing behind her.
"Challenge?" Adhemar smirks before dodging Daenah's swing and backing up, "it's more like being bullied."
"Shut up," Daenah  throws another punch but Adhemar easily evades and grabs her from behind, gentle enough not to hurt her but also enough to keep her from escaping. He then pretends to bite her on the neck.
"You're dead," he lets go of her and licks his lips playfully. The prince not only clenches his jaw but also clenches his fist. He stared at Adhemar as if he was holding back on killing him.
"Again," Daenah's excited smile was gone and was now a frown. Adhemar moves his head away from the jab and ducks away from the hook. She kicks dirt towards him, he closes his eyes for a brief second. When he opens them, he was too late to anticipate the tackle. She pinned him down and before he could power out she tried to stab him. He grabs her wrist and rolls on top of her. He lowers his head towards her neck.
"Bite," he said before moving up to her ear and whispering "you're dead." He stands up and pulls her up with him.
"Soon enough you won't be needing these hand to hand combat," he said as he dusted the dirt off of her. "Ascend. Then beat me the next time we fight."
"Fight?" Daenah raises an eyebrow, "more like being bullied." She winked at him and he smiles at her playfulness before they walk away from each other.

~~~~~
Daenah sat on the balcony, enjoying the breeze of the night. She inhales deeply as the wind blows, closing her eyes and raising her chin in satisfaction. She sighs before drinking her coffee.
"Cute," said a voice from behind her, she turns to take notice of Ajenore standing there, gazing upon her, "it's almost like you knew I was here and you were trying to seduce me. I'm sorry but I'm not that easy to get." He sat beside her and she smiles at him.
"Funny, here i thought, it was you that liked me, not the other way around," they smiled at each other. He sighed and turned his gaze back to Daenah.
"So you ascend tomorrow."
"Yeah," she sighed once again, "I don't know what to feel about tomorrow. I never knew what to feel whenever I thought about the night of my ascending."
"Well I'm not gonna tell you how to feel about it."
"Thanks for being so helpful," she said sarcastically and rolled her eyes. They both laugh and Daenah took another sip of her coffee.
"Ascend," Ajenore stood up and stared out into the forest, "then let me know how you feel about that." He took a deep breath then smiled at Daenah before walking away.
"Yeah," Daenah said to herself, "ascend."
~~~~~

Daenah stared at her closet. She was nervous to face the day that has come. It was hard for her to fall asleep with so much excitement and thought of the night of her ascending. She ended up falling asleep late. Hence, she woke up late in the afternoon. She grabbed her clothes and got dressed. She puts on her combat boots before making her way downstairs. She walks out the house where everybody waited for her. They all looked nervous. They looked at her worriedly. She kissed her father on the cheek then hugged him. She smiled at Ajenore as she walked past him.
"Let's go Daenah," Adhemar walked and Daenah followed. It was then, more than ever that the pack wanted to know why they should trust Adhemar. But none could question the king, all they could do was hope that Daenah returns safely.
