As soon as we stepped outside, a handful of beasts spotted us, and lunged at us. In the blink of an eye, they dropped to the ground, and Jesse was standing there, sliding his sword back into its scabbard. "Poor fools. Transformed this badly." He shook his head and started walking towards the humongous mob of beasts. As we approached them, we heard footsteps pounding on the rooftops of the buildings next to us. We stopped to look, and there were two figures perched atop the building closest the mob. One of them was dressed on what looked like a black hoodie, boots, and skinny jeans. The other was dressed in a beanie, leather jacket, black pants, and some type of skater shoe. The one in the beanie looked like a guy, and the other I could tell was a girl. Jesse looked at me and said, "Follow me. I wanna investigate these two." He silently dashed towards the building and began climbing. "Such a monkey boy" I said to myself, and then followed him. We reached the top and as we approached, the girl heard us and fired a round off from her revolver. In a flash, Jesse had drawn his sword and deflected the bullet as if it were nothing. I always wondered where he got this insane speed from, but I never really asked. The girl stood and inspected us. Jesse returned his sword to his scabbard and the girl introduced herself. "My name, is Auricle Shadow. My partner is named Christopher Lucker. We are hunters, just like you, though our targets vary drastically. You hunt beasts. We hunt hunters." The boy stood and walked over and put out his hand in Jesse's direction. And then he spoke. "Christopher Lucker. It's nice to meet you." His voice was deep and somewhat raspy. He sounded like a smoker. Jesse shook his hand and greeted him. "My name is Jesse Carter. This is my girlfriend, Alexandria Akuma. Nice to meet you as well." They seemed to stare each other down for a moment but then released each others hand. "We have noticed a huge number of your hunter friends going sour. They're killing innocents and feasting on their blood. We think they've got the Scourge," Auricle said.
I stepped back appalled. "None of our friends would ever rely on the old blood to that extent. It's not in their nature." I said. I was beginning to grow angry and it took Jesse telling me that I was overreacting for me to realize that I needed to calm down. "We'll if it's not your friends, maybe you can help us identify some of these hunters." Chris said. He pulled a few folded pieces of paper out of his pocket. As he unfolded them, I realized they were pictures. He handed them to Jesse, who as soon as he saw the first one, began frantically flicking through them. "These...these hunters...they are our friends...what's going on..." he said. The answer would show itself soon, but we had no idea how soon.
