Chapter 7

A few days later...

Riker POV

I'd moved into the band house again. I was still pretty heartbroken about Brynn, so my siblings sort of moved everything back for me. And dad would be taking care of selling my house.

I'd pretty much stayed locked up in my room for the past few days, only leaving to use the bathroom or take a shower. Rydel would try to get me to come down and eat, but I wouldn't, so she'd bring me my meals.

Except tonight was going a bit differently...

"Riker, I've given you some time to calm down from everything. But I can't just let you stay up here for the rest of your life. I want you to come downstairs and have dinner with us," Rydel said, standing in my doorway with her hands on her hips.

"I don't want to."

"I don't care if you don't want to. You're coming down anyway."

"No, I'm not," I said, pulling the covers over my head.

The blankets got ripped off my bed within seconds.

"Riker, I'm not asking you to do anything hard. I'm not even asking you to change out of your pajamas. I just want you to walk downstairs, sit down, and eat dinner with us for an hour."

She was giving me one of those 'don't even think about arguing anymore' looks. I knew if I refused, she'd just get the boys to physically drag me out of bed, and I really wasn't in the mood for that right now.

"Fine," I grumbled.

I put my slippers on, and followed Rydel downstairs. Just as I got down the steps, the doorbell rang. Rydel went to answer it. And out of the corner of my eye, I saw Brynn.

I bolted into the bathroom, and locked the door. My heart was absolutely pounding against my chest.

I didn't want her seeing me in my pjs and with my bed head. I didn't know what I'd even say to her if she saw me. Why is she here!?

"Riker, everything ok in there?" Ross asked, knocking lightly on the door.

"Um, yeah..."

I heard Ross leave, and I just stood there, trying to hear what was going on. But I couldn't.

Suddenly, someone knocked on the door, and I jumped.

"W-what?" I asked.

"Riker, Brynn is here. She has something of yours," Rydel said.

"Um... I-I'm busy right now!"

"Alright..."

My heart was still pounding, and I felt sort of light headed. I slid down to the floor, trying to calm myself down.

A few minutes later, there was another knock on the door, which startled me.

"W-what?" I asked.

"Brynn's gone. Are you going to join us for dinner?" Rydel asked.

"Yeah, I'm coming..."

I stood up, took a few breaths, and left the bathroom. I walked into the kitchen, and took a seat.

"W-why was Brynn here?" I asked, quietly.

"She had your scarf."

"Oh... Did she say anything?"

"Yeah, she wanted to talk to you. I told her you were busy hiding in the bathroom."

"Rydel!"

"Rik, I could tell by your voice you were just standing by the door."

"Why would you tell her I was hiding!?"

"Because that's the truth! And if you really want this girl, then you need to quit being a scaredy cat, and talk to her! She seems nice. I don't know what the problem is."

I got up from the table, and started walking away.

"Riker, where are you going?" Rydel asked.

"To bed!" I shouted, frustrated.

"Rik-"

"You ruined everything!" I screamed, starting to cry.

I slammed my bedroom door shut, and collapsed in tears. Brynn probably thinks I'm so pathetic now. Hiding in the freaking bathroom...

All of a sudden, my phone buzzed. I didn't recognize the number, but I had a text.

"We need to talk soon. -Brynn"

My heart started racing again. I wasn't sure if I should be scared or excited.

Wait. How does she have my number?

I wiped my cheeks off, and opened my door a little. I walked over to the stairs, and sat down on the top step.

"Rydel?"

A minute later, Rydel came walking up the stairs, and sat down beside me.

"Why does Brynn have my number?" I whispered.

"I gave it to her. She said she wanted to talk to you."

"About what?"

"She didn't say."

"Did it seem good or bad?"

"I don't know, Rik. Are you going to come down and have dinner with us?"

I sighed, and my stomach growled.

"Rik."

"Yeah... I'll come back down..."

"Wait. Why were you crying?" She asked, wiping a tear I missed.

"Just... I don't know... I'm so confused right now..."

She took my hand, and brought me back downstairs to the kitchen. I took my seat again, feeling a bit uncomfortable from the stares of all my siblings.

Later...

Riker POV

When I got back upstairs, I realized I never texted Brynn back. So I decided to...

I picked up my phone, thinking...

"Ok, when and where do you want to talk?"

My heart started beating faster. I was nervous of what she'd say, but I don't know why...

"Tomorrow."

"When?"

"Not my house."

"You can come here if you want."

"Sure. See you tomorrow."

I sighed in relief. That went well, I think.

I wonder what she wants to talk about...

There was a knock at my door.

"Come in!"

Rydel came in, and shut the door.

"Hey, big bro. Are you going to head to bed soon?"

"Yeah..."

"Ok. Do you need to talk or anything?"

"No, but thanks... And sorry for overreacting earlier at dinner... I don't know what happened..."

"It's ok."

She gave me a hug. I rested my chin on her shoulder.

"I texted Brynn," I whispered.

"What happened?"

"She's coming here tomorrow to talk to me."

"About what?"

"I don't know yet... And that's what scares me..."

Rydel pulled away from the hug.

"Well... Good luck then."

"Thanks... I think I'll need it..."

"Night, big bro."

"Night..."

I got myself settled into bed, and went to sleep.
