Chapter 8
The next day...
Riker POV
"Do I look ok!? What about my hair!? Is my outfit alright!?"
"Riker, calm down. You look fine," Rydel said, pushing some hair out of my face.
"Are you absolutely sure?"
"Yes, Riker. You look great."
"Ok," I said, sighing in relief.
"Why were you asking?"
"I'm meeting Brynn today, and I don't want to look awful. She should be here any minute, and I feel like I'm about to pass out or something. I'm so nervous!"
"Why? What's she coming over to talk about?"
"I don't know! That's why I'm freaking out!"
"I'm sure everything will be fine."
"Rydel, what if she's going to bring me to the police, and tell them I kidnapped her!? What if she's going to yell at me!? I can't do this!"
I felt tears stinging my eyes. I furiously blinked them away while Rydel hugged me tight.
"Riker, you'll be fine. She didn't seem mad when she dropped off your scarf yesterday."
"Well-"
The doorbell rang.
"She's here! Help me!" I said, latching onto my sister.
"Riker, you have to go talk to her," she said, pushing me off of her.
She grabbed my hand, and dragged me over to the door.
"Open it," Rydel said.
I took a deep breath, and opened the door. Rydel left. My heart was racing like crazy.
"Um... H-hey," I said, fidgeting a little.
"Hey. Can we talk?"
"Um... Yeah..."
I led her up to my bedroom, and then shut the door. We sat down on opposite sides of my bed.
"I wanted to apologize, Riker. If you hadn't saved me that night, I could've gotten pregnant or something. I'm not ready for all of that. Especially if it happened while I was drunk. I shouldn't have been mad at you. And I just wanted to thank you for saving me, and apologize for yelling at you."
I felt a weird feeling in my stomach, and I felt like I was just going to explode. I didn't know what I was feeling, but it was a bunch of different things at once.
"S-so you're not mad at me?" I asked, quietly.
I started fidgeting even more, and playing with my hands in my lap.
"No, I'm not mad. I was actually wondering if maybe we could start over. You're a really good person, and I'm sorry I treated you how I did."
I was smiling so wide, it hurt. I didn't even know what to say, I was just about exploding inside.
"Yes! I'd love to start over!" I said, a bit too eagerly.
"Ok, cool. So I was wondering if maybe you'd like to catch a movie and maybe dinner."
"Yes! I'd love to!"
"Cool. Are you doing anything today?"
"No! Nothing at all!"
"Awesome."
We got up. I pulled on my shoes, and grabbed a jacket, and then Brynn drove us to the movie theater.
Later...
Riker POV
I was shaking a little, but it was only from excitement. I was sitting across from Brynn, eating dinner.
"So um... Why'd you decide to give me another chance?" I asked.
"Well... When we were at that cabin... Even though you were sort of kidnapping me... You still took good care of me. You didn't make me sleep in the room with the spider. You didn't let me freeze. You made sure we had food. Just things like that. And not to mention, you saved me from that guy. I might be pregnant right now if it wasn't for you."
"Well I just didn't want you to be miserable while we were at the cabin. I already felt so bad about kidnapping you, but I was just so scared, and I didn't know what to do. I mean, part of it is because I'm nice and stuff... But I really like you, Brynn. And the fact that you just... hated me... and were so mad... It just hurt me so much. I've been so nervous ever since you texted me and wanted to talk. I didn't know if you were going to tell the cops the truth and get me arrested, or yell at me more... You don't know how happy I am to find out that you're not mad at me anymore."
"Yeah... I'm sorry, Riker... I was being stupid... I'm sorry for making you upset. You were just trying to do the right thing."
We finished up dinner. I paid. And then Brynn drove me back home.
"Thank you so much for tonight. I had a lot of fun," I said, smiling.
"You're welcome."
"I just had one question..."
"What?"
"I really like you. I get it if you don't want to go out with me, but I was wondering if maybe we could at least be friends..."
Brynn paused, which scared the daylights out of me. My stomach dropped, and my whole body tensed up.
"How about this? We'll pick a time when we're both free, and then you can take me out on a date. I know that's what you really want. And I'm willing to give it a shot."
"Wait. Really!?"
"Yeah."
I smiled. My mind was racing. I can't believe I'm finally getting what I've always wanted.
"So you text me and let me know when you're free, ok?"
"Yes, definitely!"
"Ok, great. I'll see you in a few days then."
"Yup."
Brynn leaned over, and kissed my cheek. I felt myself blushing madly.
"Bye!" I said, jumping out, not daring to look back.
I was too embarrassed.
I ran inside, and accidentally slammed the door shut.
"Hey, how was it?" Rydel asked.
"I'm going on a date with her!" I shouted, jumping up and down.
"Whoa, calm down, big bro. You're causing an earthquake."
I stopped jumping.
"I'm so excited!" I screeched.
"Good. But it's late. Ross is already asleep. Try not to wake him up."
"Oops... Goodnight!"
I wrapped my arms around her, hugging her tightly.
"Night, big bro."
I quietly ran upstairs, changed into my pjs, and fell asleep with a smile on my face.
