Chapter 9

*Adelyne*

I ran out with Mary into the main ground joining everyone at the fence. Mary instantly clutched onto my arm and I felt her fear along with my own skyrocketing. The governor was in front of the prison with a tank and people. He had more than us, he had the numbers we didn't anymore. I looked at Daryl and Rick.

"What's happening?" I asked.

"Where's Aiden?" Daryl asked.

"He's with Tyreese, now what's going on?"

Before anyone could answer another voice filled the air.

"Rick! Come down here. We need to talk."

We all looked at each other then looked at Rick.

"It's not up to me. There's a council now. They run this place" Rick yelled down.

"Is Hershel on the council?"

That's when one of his people led Hershel out and forced him on the ground. I watched Maggie and Beth instantly get closer to the fence, pure fear in their faces. My stomach started to turn making me feel sick.

"What about Michonne? She on the council, too?"

I instantly started to panic he had not one but two of our people now. Michonne was forced to her knees on the ground.

"I don't make decisions anymore!"

"You're making the decisions today, Rick. Come down here. Let's... Let's have that talk."

"We can do this. All right?" I said looking at everyone.

"We can't take 'em all on. We'll go through the admin building, through the woods like we planned" Sasha explained.

"We ain't got the numbers no more. When's the last time someone checked the stash on the bus?" Daryl asked.

I shook my head.

"Day before you hit the Big Spot. You were running low on rations then. You're lower now. "

Daryl nodded.

"Yeah, we'll manage. Things go south, everyone heads for that bus. Let everybody know."

Sasha nodded.

"What if everybody doesn't know when things go bad? How long do we wait?" I asked.

Daryl looked at me.

"As long as we can. Adelyne baby you listen to me. You get on that bus the minute you can with our boy. I love you"

I clutched his arm.

"Don't you dare say goodbye to me."

*Third Person*

Rick came down and stopped in front of them.

"Let 'em go right now. I'll stay down here. Talk as long as you want. But you let 'em go. You got a tank. You don't need hostages" he told the governor.

"I do. This is just to show you I'm serious. Not to blast a hole in our new home. You and your people, you have till sundown to get out of here or they die."

He wasn't going to show it but fear was running through his entire body. Carl, Adelyne, his people they had  to live.

"Doesn't have to go down this way."

"I got more people, more firepower. We need this prison. There it is" he said.

"It's not about the past. It's about right now. There are children here. Some of them are sick. They won't survive" Rick explained looking at the Governor and then to Michonne and Hershel.
