Chapter 19

Chapter 19-

If I had been holding anything, I would've dropped whatever it was. They were offering him immortality?! And Hades had known about it?! Hades is gonna get an earful when this thing is over.

Nico stood on the stage in shock, his eyebrows raised in surprise at his father. He hesitated to give his answer, and I saw him glance down at Hazel. And then his eyes searched for mine.

I quickly looked away and I stared at the floor instead, feigning interest in the glossy white marble.

"No." Nico's voice answered steadily.

My eyes raised from the floor and stared up at where he and the gods were. He..... he said no? He said no! My jaw went slack, and so did many others'.

"No?" Zeus's eyes flashed angrily.

Percy had told me about the time that he had said no to Zeus about immortality, and I knew that it was out of love for Annabeth.

Oh my gosh, Nico actually said no to Zeus, and it was about immortality too. I just couldn't wrap my mind around it.....

"No." Nico confirmed.

Zeus's face was priceless, and so was Poseidon's. Hades didn't seem all that surprised, and I'd have to ask him that later, right after I told him off for not telling me about Zeus going and offering Nico immortality. He must've known, that bastard.

"I hate demigods saying 'no' when I offer them eternal life." Zeus grumbled, his hands clenched into fists.

Nico just smiled cockily, his eyes bright and amused. I loved seeing him smile; it made him seem softer and less cold. Wait, what was I saying? Nico was just a big ol' softy deep down. A teddy bear.

"Thanks for the offer, though. But, I have everything that I want and everything I need." Nico smiled, flashing his sparkly white teeth.

He padded down the stairs to rejoin his friends, still smiling. Hazel looked puzzled as to why Nico was acting like that- actually, the only one who didn't look confused was Percy.

"Happy New Years everyone! Midnight is in 1 minute and 10 seconds!" Aphrodite yelled.

Everyone scrambled to get to where they wanted to be, and Nico slipped away from The Seven, unnoticed.

"60 seconds!" Aphrodite shouted.

Nico stopped in front of me with a huge grin on his face. I was still in shock from him turning down immortality.

"You alright? You look a little surprised." Nico chuckled.

He took a final step forward and he placed his hands around my waist. His smile was almost blinding.

"50 seconds!" Aphrodite screeched.

I barely heard her over my heartbeat. My heart was beating so loudly I wouldn't be surprised if Nico could hear it from where he was standing.

"You said no." Was all I could manage to say, my voice whispery.

Nico chuckled again, his smile getting wider, and his blue eyes lightened. His forehead rested against mine, sending electricity through me.

"40 seconds!" Aphrodite informed loudly.

She was really starting to get on my nerves. 40 seconds until midnight; 40 seconds until I was 18.

"Of course I said no, stupid." Nico laughed lightly.

He said that like it was obvious as to why he said no to Zeus. He then rolled his pretty blue eyes, and he stepped even closer to me.
