Chapter 4

  "How was the Kingdom of Viliri, Mephiles?" King Shadow asked his servant once he entered his study. Mephiles bowed before answering

"It was beautiful, your highness. I found the book you were looking for" he handed the requested book to his King.

Shadow's face had an amused look. He was proud that his brother managed to find it. Then he noticed the distant look in his brother's eyes.

"Is there a problem? you seem so sullen"
"There is no problem, my lord. I am perfectly fine"
"Then why do your eyes say otherwise?"

The servant couldn't give an answer quickly. What could he say? That he fell in love with a young male he met for a short time?

The ebony king coughed to get his servant's attention, then decided to change the topic

"So, is there anything interesting that happened to you during your visit?" Shadow noticed the other's eyes lighting up visibly
"Oh yes, your highness; First, I was offered some free pastry native to Viliri, it was delicious"
"Hmmm.. I heard that they do make the best pastries, next to our kingdom that is"
"And while I was distracted by the scenery, I apologize my King but the papers flew free from my grasp and was carried by the wind"

The red-streaked ebony male raised his eye ridge in shock. Mephiles saw this and quickly answered

"b-but I got them back, your highness. Someone caught them and gave them back to me. And I met two people who were being kind to me"

Interested, Shadow pressed on with the topic "And who might these be, dear brother?"
"Well, one of them asked if I have met with him somewhere, for he said that I looked familiar. I thought that he may have mistaken me for you instead"

Shadow purposely kept quiet and let his servant continue, he sat on his chair by his study table, leaning closer. He had an odd feeling eating at his chest. If that person mistook my brother for me... could it be...

"Their names were Sonic and Silver, your highness"

He knew it... Deep down in his chest he knew it... Not many people have seen him in person, so only HE could mistake his brother for him

Mephiles noticed the sudden silence of his King, and saw what appears to be hate glowing in his eyes.

"Have I said anything to offend you, your highness?"
"Where they together?" came the ebony king's voice. It was quiet, but held a much emotion as if he would have shouted it. Mephiles hesitated
"They... they were, your highness. They were strolling through the plaza, when sir Silver caught my papers when they flew away"

Shadow's fists began shaking. Then he got up and walked out of the study and into his room. Mephiles stood by his king's door, shocked by his brother's reaction. Did something happen to him with those two before? His thoughts were interrupted when the ebony ruler's voice called for him

"Yes, your highness?" he went closer to his brother, whose back was turned against him, and stopped when he witnessed tears falling from his ruby eyes.

"Y-your highness! What is the matter?"
"Kill him" was his master's abrupt response
"I-I beg your pardon?"

Serpent green eyes saw a picture held tightly against his king's ebony chest. A closer look and it was a photo of... Sonic? Why would his brother have a photo of the azure hedgehog?

unless....

Does Shadow have feelings for the blue one? If so...

Said king looked up, face painted with anger, hate, and pain "I want you to kill Silver"

The ebony servant couldn't respond immediately to his king's wish- no.. order to kill the argent male. In his chest he could feel a sense of rebellion threatening to swallow him, but immediately died down once he saw tears flowing from his dear brother's eyes. He vowed to do his king's wishes, he vowed to make his brother smile. And that he would do in the expense of his own happiness; For his brother's happiness is his priority.

"Yes, your highness"
