"I just need to be sure it's him, Coulson," Skye said as she handed the team leader a small piece of paper.
"You know, Skye, going behind someone's back isn't the best way for said person to grant you favors," Coulson said, taking the slip of paper. "You know you're not supposed to go into Vault D without anyone watching the cameras."
"Ward won't hurt me," she automatically replied, though she still wasn't sure why he wouldn't.
Coulson raised an eyebrow, "really?" He sounded suspicious. "What did you need from him?"
Skye pointed towards the note, "on my mission with Trip yesterday we found that. Trip and I were walking back to the extraction point when we came across my alley. That was there."
"How do you know it's for you?" Coulson turned the note over to look at the back and then looked up at Skye. "It could be for anyone."
"Did you read it?"
Coulson nodded but then read it again aloud.
"Dear Daisy,
Frankly, I'm not even sure how to begin this letter. I suppose I should start at the beginning.
I've been searching far and wide for you since you were taken from me. It's taken me years to find you, but now that I have, I hope that we can be a family again. I'll be coming for you soon.
Say hi to Coulson for me,
Cal."
Skye nodded, "I've heard Ward talk about my father before. I wanted to know if they were the same person."
"And?" Coulson asked, hoping the answer would be a no.
Skye nodded, "so far the story checks out. I mean, obviously it's not even like, 75% certain but, the facts check out. The letter is to a girl, Ward said that my mother and I were taken from him and he's been looking for me ever since, I could've sworn I heard Raina say something about him and if Raina knows him then he's a nut-job, which means he could be coming after me, and lastly he mentioned your name. I'm the only girl on your team with a story like that."
Coulson nodded uneasily and swallowed the lump in his throat.
"So, he's coming for me?"
"We won't let that happen," Coulson tried to reassure her.
Skye shook her head, "no. I want to meet him."
He wasn't expecting that answer. She had to be insane. "Skye, you have no idea who this man is. He could hurt you."
"All due respect, AC, but Ward and May have both been my SOs, I can handle myself," she defended.
Coulson noted the brief mention of Ward. Skye never talked about Ward. None of them did, if they could help it. "Are you sure?" Skye nodded. Coulson took a deep breath and handed her back the note, "alright, go ahead."
Skye gave him a timid smile and pulled her phone out of her pocket. She turned the note over and looked at the phone number. There were butterflies in her stomach as she dialed the ten digits.
She held the phone to her ear and waited as it rang and rang. She was about to throw up in anticipation. "Hello?" a deep voice came from the other side of the phone.
"Who is this?" Skye asked, not letting any emotion show in her voice. Coulson was impressed, she had been trained well.
There was a chuckle from the other end, "Daisy, you got my note."
"So are you Cal?" Skye sounded bored as she asked the question, but Coulson could tell she was as nervous as could be.
"I am."
"What do you want from me?"
"I thought that was obvious," now it was the man's turn to sound bored. "I want us to be a family again."
"Kind of hard to do if you won't tell me where you are."
"And let you lead S.H.I.E.L.D. right to me?" He laughed a deep, guttural laugh, "I don't think so," he returned serious again.
"Well, IF we're doing this," Skye stated, "I'm sure as hell not coming alone. If you want to see me, I need to bring someone with."
"No," he said, as if the answer were final.
Skye looked up at Coulson and met his eyes. He nodded at her and she hung up. Skye leaned across the table to look at the laptop in front of Coulson, "where is he?"
"Nearby," Coulson said. He didn't like that.
"Are we bringing him in? Ward said he killed an entire village, he's at least worth questioning."
Coulson raised an eyebrow, "when did Ward become your voice of reason?"
Skye looked down, ashamed she had let her guard down, "sorry, old habits I guess."
Coulson shook his head, "you don't have to be sorry. You're right, he's worth questioning. I'll send in a few men with you to get him."
"Who are you sending?"
"Trip and I will go with you," Coulson said as he grabbed the gun from his office desk.
"Now?" Skye raised an eyebrow at the split-second decision making.
"Sure, what could go wrong?" Coulson smiled.
A/N: Ok, so I just want to clear a few things up. This story takes place a little bit before 2x10 but there is no Bobbi. All the other characters are here, but Bobbi is not.
Fitz and Simmons were still dropped out of the plane, and Fitz DID have the brain injury, but he's better now because Simmons never left to go undercover at Hydra.
I just wanted to clear those up, so none of you would get confused later on. Sorry about that 😂 Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter.
Let me know what you thought, comments make my day 100x better!
