"Your power is to sense Inhumans, even if they haven't changed," Ward spoke to Katrina while sitting in his quarantine room again. "How did you not sense me?"
Katrina shook her head. "I never got a reading off of you, ever. Not until we danced at the gala. Once I touched you, I saw a flicker of something, but nothing more." She then shook her head and shrugged. "Look, I'm sorry, Ward. But this has never happened before. I don't know why I could never get a reading on you."
He shook his head and moved to sit down on his bed. "No, I'm not mad. Just confused."
"Understandable," Katrina nodded before exhaling deeply, rubbing her palms on her legs and then standing up. "Any idea what you can do?"
"Skye said something to me on the way back about seeing fire in my eyes," Ward said in a haunted voice.
Katrina nodded and then continued in a softer voice to reassure him. "Ok, why don't you try closing your eyes, taking a deep breath, and trying to find the fire."
She made sure the glass door was locked before stepping back. Ward closed his eyes, took a deep breath and relaxed completely. He waited a few moments before finally a burst of flames appeared in his hand.
Katrina smiled and clapped her hands together. "Open your eyes," she coaxed.
Ward opened his eyes fractionally, gazing at the fireball resting in his hand. His eyes widened in amazement as he watched the sparks fly and the flames dance. "How is this possible? It doesn't even hurt."
Katrina smiled. "It's just your power."
"We met a guy with these powers once," Ward started, "he could do this too."
"And did the flames ever hurt him?"
"Not until Raina found him and injected him with some kind of drug."
"Well, I know the team won't let that happen," Katrina said firmly, "so you have nothing to worry about."
Ward nodded before sitting down on the bed and folding his hands I his lap.
There was a knock on the door and Skye appeared in the doorway. "Hey. Bad time?"
"Not at all," Katrina smiled. "We've figured out the power and we've learned to control the power pretty easily."
"Wow, that was...extremely fast," Skye said, tilting her head to the side as she looked at Ward.
Ward just shrugged.
Katrina smiled again. "I'll leave you two alone, I'm gonna go find Lincoln."
She closed the door behind her and Skye sat down in the chair across from Ward's quarantine area. "How're you holding up?"
Ward exhaled. "I'm not really sure."
Skye chuckled. "I know the feeling. So you figured out your power?"
Ward smirked and held out his hand, summoning a small ball of flames.
Skye raised her eyebrows. "Wow."
Ward curled his fingers back into his palm and the ball disappeared.
"You learn faster than I did."
"Not sure how," Ward offered, "seeing as how I haven't even had an actual lesson."
Skye chuckled at the statement. "Well, keep it up and you might get out of quarantine in faster than a week."
Ward raised his brow and shot her a playful, yet questioning, look.
Skye smiled. "I'll put in a good word for you."
