Something Worth Saving

Chapter 24

We have reached the part in my story where, if it were a TV show, it would be considered the season finale. Only two chapters left after this one! 

"Is everyone on this team a bloody Inhuman?" Fitz asked with a smile as he walked past practice a few days later.

Skye grinned and walked towards the other side of the glass. "You'd have to ask the rest of the team that question, my friend."

Fitz shook his head. "I'm probably better off not knowing."

Skye chuckled and rolled her eyes as he walked away and she turned back to Ward, Lincoln, Katrina, and Trip. "Before we start showing off our powers and pushing ourselves to the limit and all that stuff, we should get cool code names," she nodded seriously.

Ward rolled his eyes with a slight smirk on his face. "And what do you suggest, Skye?"

"Well, for starters, I can be Quake, cuz, you know, earthquakes," she explained.

"Groundbreaking," Ward did jazz hands unenthusiastically.

Skye hung her head and sighed in defeat. "That was a good one."

Trip chuckled at the pair. "And what about the rest of us?"

"I was going to suggest either Sparky or Pikachu for Lincoln," Skye grinned at him.

"Neither of which will work," Lincoln shook his head.

"Well, we'll figure that out later." She turned to Trip and pointed at him, "you could be Hollow. Because, to me, your shell looked hollow when it broke and you can make yourself intangible, so..." she trailed off.

Trip nodded in thought. "I like it. Hollow it is."

"Boom, two down, three to go."

"What about Ward?" Katrina asked.

Skye looked at Ward seriously and thought for a moment. "Something with fire..."

"You're kidding," Ward said sarcastically. "I never would've thought of that."

Skye laughed and rolled her eyes. "Shut up. How about...Hellfire? I mean, when you grin at us while you're covered in flames, it's creepy as hell, so the name fits."

Ward chuckled, "alright, sure."

"Perfect," Skye fist-pumped victoriously. "Now we just need a name for the happy couple." She looked at them in thought and finally snapped her fingers together. "What about Sensor for Katrina?"

"Sensor?" Katrina raised an eyebrow.

Skye shrugged. "Yeah, you sense Inhumans and stuff."

Katrina laughed, "sure, Skye. Sensor it is."

Skye turned to Lincoln. "Don't suppose you'd want to be Watt Man?"

"Not a chance," Lincoln laughed.

"Didn't think so," Skye shook her head. "What about Aftershock?"

Lincoln nodded, "oh, that'll definitely work."

"Yes!" Skye said triumphantly. "Now we have cool code names. Don't know when we'll use them, but we still have them!"

"Can we practice now?" Katrina raised an eyebrow in amusement.

"Yeah, sure," Skye waved for her to begin.

"Alright, lets just go down the line and show everyone what we can do. You all know what I can do, so we can skip me since there's nothing much to show. Lincoln, why don't you go first?"

The other four stepped outside and watched through the window as Lincoln summoned a lightning bolt and threw it at one of the dummies Coulson had given them for practice. The air crackled and the bolt hit the dummy in the chest, leaving a large burn. Katrina walked back in when Lincoln motioned for them to come back in and she aimed the fire extinguisher at the dummy. Once the small fire was out, she turned to face the group again and smiled. "Ward, how about you go next?"

The other four left the room as Ward's entire body was engulfed in flames and he summoned fireballs into his palms. He threw them at the dummy and they hit the dummy on either side of the burn Lincoln had given it. He turned and smiled at them before turning his powers off and letting them back in.

"Stop doing that," Skye laughed, being partially serious, "its creepy!"

Ward just shrugged in response as Katrina turned to Trip after putting the fire out. "Your turn."

"You don't have to leave the room," Trip assured them. He closed his eyes and turned invisible. The other couldn't see him until they saw his hand poke through the dummy's torso.

"That is so freaky," Skye said in a hushed tone as she watched the scene, amazed.

The rest of Trip's body appeared on the other side of the mannequin and he retracted his hand before walking back to the group.

"That's amazing, Trip," Skye grinned, motioning for a high-five.

Trip raised his arm and made his hand disappear. Skye furrowed her brow in mock-annoyance as she looked for the hand. Trip then reached over and tussled her hair. His hand appeared again and Skye stuck her tongue out at him.

"Your turn, Skye," Katrina laughed.

The four exited the room and Skye raised her arm, directing it towards the mannequin. She sent a wave of air towards the mannequin and made it vibrate at such a high frequency that it broke into a million tiny fragments.

She motioned for the others to come back in and shrugged. "It was time for a new one, anyway."

Coulson appeared in the doorway a moment later, after making sure that the coast was clear, and announced, "I need you all in the briefing room. We have a big emergency."

A/N: so, yes, there is a Marvel character named Aftershock who has electric powers, but that's not Lincoln, just wanted to clear that up. I just needed the name.
