After Jane left I was in this weird dream-like haze. I forgot why I was at Felicity’s house, other than to drop off the note that listed my mobile number. My plan was to convince Felicity to become my friend or more. It was just simple politics to re-launch my career, hopefully getting a new agent, who can get me more work.
Felicity was almost shocked to see me standing in her custom made house. She tried to come across as suave and sophisticated, so instead of asking me to sit down in her house, she invited me out to a small cafe, not far from her house. I play along by agreeing to go with her, but accompanying my answer I got a feeling of guilt, using her like this to get back in the fame game. When we got to this upmarket bar, the owner took us through to a private room out the back. We sat for a while, in complete silence. I broke it by asking about what she was doing in the evening.
“I… Erm… No I don’t have any plans… How about you?”
“Me either… Do you want to do something?” I asked her, and she turned to face me.
“This is quite awkward. Are you sure you want to repeat this situation again tonight? Also, what do you really want? Even I can see you’re not here just to say hello and give me your number.”
How did she see through this situation so easily? It was going to be more difficult than I thought to trap Felicity.
“Well… I wanted to get to know you better… and… maybe we could be friends because I feel guilty about that confrontation a few months ago.” It seemed to make more sense when I came up with that answer in my head. My answer was followed by another awkward silence. She got up and said she was going to use the bathroom. The word Posh sprung to mind. I forgot that she came from a very wealthy background. Maybe I could make a move through social networks. I updated my status saying that I was with her in a cafe. She quickly followed with the same post. While I waited I decided to order a drink. Time passed by and I wondered if something had happened to Felicity. Then I was distracted by a call from Jane.
“What have you done to Felicity?”
“Nothing. She just went to the toilet. Anyway, how did you know I was with her?”
“I just called her; she’s needed in the studio. Wait. Never mind. I’ll pick her up in like twenty minutes. Is that ok with you, not that you have a choice, really?”
I guess it had to be ok with me. I had just put the phone down when Felicity came out of the toilet. She looked distressed, but wouldn’t admit it. She told me that Jane was coming to pick her up, in a while. So I acted quickly.
“Do you want to go out with me, at some point?” I asked her like this was the first time I had ever asked anyone out. It seemed to work with girls nowadays. She didn’t know what to say, and then Jane burst in through the door with three security guards.
“Come on, Fliss, are you ready to go?”
Felicity was hustled through the door by Jane and the guards. Jane remained for a pause, telling me that it was best that everyone didn’t go at the same time.
“This is none of my business, but did you intentionally ask Felicity out, or by mistake?”
Jane was right, it was none of her business, but I answered stupidly.
“Yeah, guess I did intentionally ask her out. Why and how did you know I asked her out? Did you think I was going to ask you out?” I laughed cruelly. I realised that I had managed to aggravate her again. Great plan! I thought.
Then, I noticed, she was laughing too.
“No! Ha! It’s just, Felicity is prone to panic attacks in social situations like this.” Then she turned serious. “If I find out that this is a nasty game you’re playing with her, you are going to regret it. The last person who played a game like this with Fliss did not get away lightly.”
With that, Jane left. A few minutes later I, too, departed in a security car. I knew that Jane would make me live to regret what I was leading Felicity into.
