Chapter 4: Sickness

Ember's POV

So many people are sick now... I thought it was a little cold but no it's worse. Half the school is out. My mom is even sick. I'm really worried about her. All the hospitals have no room for more patients. I woke up to Hayes looking at me. "What?" "Nothing you're just so beautiful." I blushed and smiled. I seemed happy until mom started coughing. I sat up quickly and ran to Adrien's room. "Bro is mom gonna be OK?" "I don't know Em... She's getting worse. Did you hear people are dying because of this now. It's bad Em..." I sighed and walked back to my room. I fell on my bed and groaned. "Wow Ember you OK?" I looked up and shook my head. I rolled over on my back an looked at Hayes. "What if she dies Hayes?" I didn't realize I was crying until Hayes wiped my tears away. I sniffled and gave a soft smile. "Babygirl you are gonna be fine and y'all's mom will too." He kissed my forehead. I got up and went to the bathroom and out on my jeans shorts with my mint green converses along with my zombie hazard sign crop top. I straightened my air and put my makeup on. "Hayes ready to go?" "Yep. Let's go baby doll." I scoffed at the nickname and pushed him. He just laughed. ~Time skip 30 minutes~ We got to school and there wasn't really anyone there. I saw Autumn which is a good sign. He joined me and Hayes. I looked at Autumn. "Hey Auttie is Destiny sick?" "Nope. She's actually here today for something. I don't know why." I looked over and saw her standing next to my locker. "Hey Dest. Whatcha doing here?" "Just thought I come here for a while." Before I could reply a student fell to the ground coughing up blood. Hayes pushed me behind him. The principal came out of his office. "What are y'all looking at! Get to class! NOW!" He didn't have to tell us twice. I grabbed Hayes along with Autumn and Destiny even Adrien and dragged them to the library. I was standing up while every one was sitting. "OK guys. This is not just people getting sick anymore. They are dying. The news along with the CDC have said people are coming back to life! What does this sound like?" Adrien being my brother answered. "The zombie apocalypse. Em but this is impossible. I mean it's gotta be." "Ad I've seen every episode of The Walking Dead ever I should know. This isn't just a sickness." As I was talking the lights went out. Hayes looked at me and grabbed my hand pulled me to his lap and held my waist. "No power in the apocalypse. No internet, no nothing. My dad before he passed away always said to be prepared for something like this." Just them we heard screams... And moans. "Hayes, guys we gotta get to my house... Now!"
