A New Morning
The First Day
It began unremarkably that day alarm buzzing 6:27 groggy morning drill the bus unpleasant awash of too many people in too small a space windows unopened despite the heat
but was the sun not a little brighter that morning flashing in her hair
The office drear grumbled and sour territorial reclusive and over all the warm unpleasant odor of too many in too small a space with too little ventilation
and did not the starlings sing more sweet as she passed so near
no mind now just a trick of old memory
A new morning
the service was nice yesterday everyone said so the weather being so cooperative and over all a marvel for she so loved a sunny summer day
he saw gray only gray
It is begun an unreality today reaching to hug a good morning meets emptiness robotic daily drill house full of her too small too still the starlings so quiet the sun dim in a haze
No mind now
at the graveside he murmurs as he has each waking since that long ago wedded dawn
"mornin' Missus"
