Chapter 15

CARA'S POV

The waiting room was buzzing with the sound of beeping machines and rushing nurses and doctors. I had my head rested on Calum's should and although we still hadn't heard anything from the doctor, I could feel myself slowly falling asleep. I decided to pull out my phone and scroll through twitter whilst I waited, in hopes that the distraction would keep me awake longer.

Twitter was the first app I opened and as I scrolled through my timeline, I saw some pictures of Luke posing with fans at the cinema. It must have been before Charlie arrived. There were multiple pictures and there was one where you could see just in the corner Charlie entering the cinema. I slightly frowned. How was the date, oops dates going?

I decided to give her a call. I exited the twitter app and opened her contact.

"Hello?" she whispered tiredly.

"Hey! How are the dates going?" I whispered back, not wanting to draw attention to myself. She sighed exhaustedly on the other end.

"I would barely know. I'm only at the dates for about 15 minutes each before I jump back again. I'm so tired,” she replied adding a yawn at the end. My frown became more prominent.

"Maybe you should call it a night...come up with some excuse to get away.” I suggested as I watched Calum put his phone away and draw his attention towards me. “Plus the entire concept of a date is to spend time to get to know each other. At this rate it’s looking like a meet and greet. You pay, you say hi, you leave. You could always just end one of the dates…”

"I don’t want to end one of the dates! That’s the whole reason I’m in this situation in the first place. I can’t say no but you’re right. I'm gonna come up with something to end both of the dates. I’m beyond exhausted. How's Abbie?"

"We don't know. She went to have some tests done ages but we haven't heard anything since. To be honest I'm starting to worry." I reply as I bite down on my lip, the taste of blood soon becoming prominent. Hastily, I wiped my mouth.

"Oh...text me when you hear something." she responds softly and I can hear rustling in the background.

"What are you doing? What's all that noise?" I ask confused, bringing myself to my feet and walking in the opposite direction away from Calum's prying ears. Nurses rush by me with clipboards in hand whilst pushing patients in wheelchairs. I stand to the side out of their way as they travel down the crowded white walled hallways, clearly in a hurry. Tonight was beyond chaotic.

"Uh...I'm climbing through the bathroom window..." she replied. I placed my hand to my forehead and tried to hide the smirk that was beginning to slowly etch its way onto my face. I cough to try and hide my laughter but fail miserably.

"How's that working out for ya?" I ask airlessly as I lean against the wall, glad I hadn't chosen to dress up for the concert instead opting for a simple maroon knitted sweater and black leggings.

"Shut up." she replied sarcastically and I immediately knew she couldn't come up with a comeback. "I'm gonna pretend that you want me up at the hospital because Calum's driving you nuts. I'll catch a cab and wait with you up there until you hear anything. Once I tell Ashton I should be there in about 20mins."

"What about Luke?"

"Shit um...I'll just text him. I can't keep running back and forth. I'm surprised no one's recognised me as it is or either one of the boys."

"It's a miracle, anyways I'll see ya soon." I ended the call and began walking slowly back to Calum. I was surprised how far I had walked in the short amount of time I was on the phone to Charlie. I passed a young group of girls, they're hair in a mess and excited grins plastered on their face, their makeup was smudged and in my opinion, it looked like their faces had been attacked by Crayola.
