Chapter 16

LUKE’S POV

Is it just me or is Charlie acting oddly peculiar tonight? She can’t seem to sit still. Is it me? Do I smell? I looked around slightly to see if anyone was looking before sniffing myself. Nope. I even put my best cologne on. I looked down at what I was wearing. My signature black skinny jeans and black vans shirt. Too much black? No. It can’t be that. She usually picks black for me to wear. I frustratedly ran a hand through my blonde hair, causing my beanie to fall slightly. My phone buzzed softly in my pocket before letting out a small ping. I received many dirty looks from parents trying to watch the movie with their children but I pretended I didn’t see them as I pulled my phone out.

1 NEW MESSAGE FROM CHARLIE

Miranda called. I have to leave ASAP. I’m so sorry X

I sighed rather loudly, jumping out of my seat and exiting the cinema. I had it all wrong. Charlie didn’t like me. I was kidding myself. I had no chance. My head remained down as I refused to acknowledge anyone as I made my way outside. I was hoping no fans would approach me as I began walking across the street. A large neon sign caught my attention, causing me to change my direction and enter the small pizzeria. A bell above the door chimed as I entered.

ASHTON’S POV

Charlie still hadn’t returned and I had text her over 10 minutes ago. I was starting to worry. Was this uh date, should I call it that, really that bad? Have I made her run off? Does she not like pizza? Wait that’s not possible. Everybody likes pizza. It’s probably nothing and I’m over thinking for no reason…Chances are she’s embarrassed about her drink spilling on her. Maybe I should go in and check on her? Wait…I can’t go in the girls bathroom.

“Would you like me to take your plates?” A waiter appeared beside me and I jumped faintly. I sighed and nodded. Feeling deflated, I stood up prepared to leave, chucking some money on the table. I felt my phone buzz in my pocket but as I began to retrieve it the door in front of me opened, revealing the last person I wanted to see at the moment.

“Luke?”

CHARLIE’S POV

The hospital doors opened and out came Cara followed by Calum with Abbie in his arms. Smiling slightly to myself, I made my way over to them. They were too busy looking in the opposite direction to see me approach but as I got closer Abbie was the first to notice me.

“Charlie?” she mumbled into Calum’s shirt.

“Yeah. Is she any better guys?” I replied now standing in front of everyone. Abbie was looking dishevelled, her clothes were wrinkled in certain spots and her hair was a mess on top of her slightly bruised head. The light trace of mascara she wore had smudged along with her eyeliner. Apart from her appearance, the flutter of her eyes and her slow breathing showed that she was exhausted. Sluggishly, she leant her head further into Calum chest. I wouldn’t be surprised if she was unaware of her actions. She doesn’t seem like a confident kind of girl.

“She has a concussion and severe bruising and they’ve given her some pain killers. We just have to keep an eye on her now.” Calum returned as he shifted his arms to hold Abbie’s weight.

“C’mon, let’s go.” Cara murmured, motioning for us to begin walking towards her car. I opened the door for Calum as he lay Abbie out on the leather seats before jumping in beside her, resting her head on his lap. As I closed the door behind him, I saw in the rear-view mirror, Calum stroking Abbie’s face, removing the hair from covering her eyes. A small grin played on my lips as I jumped into the passenger seat next to Cara.
