Piyush overreacted. A lot. Just because of a stupid jacket, he left Sam behind at the event. He fucking left.
It didn't become a big problem, because Rey offered to drop us home. Sam was so out of it the whole time after that. I hate to see her that way. If Piyush pulls off a stunt like that again, he's gonna get it from me.
Rey dropped Sam home first and then drove me to my house. We were in the car and none of us was saying anything. No one did even when Sam was here. We would've but I know that when Sam's upset, she's better off left alone for a while.
"You're 17." I said, out of nowhere.
"Yeah, don't you get a feeling that I probably know that?" Rey said and chuckled.
"How're you driving a car?!" I asked and looked at him.
"I-I..."
"Well?"
"Because I can." He said.
"Do you have a driver's license for a car?" I asked him.
"No, but I look old enough. The cops don't pull me aside and ask for it, anyway." He said.
I sighed. "Are you ever gonna be a normal teenager, Rey?" I asked him.
"You're starting to sound less like my best friend and more like my mom." He said and frowned.
I just rolled my eyes and didn't say anything. He has always been like this. A stupid rebel.
"You look beautiful today, by the way." He said all of a sudden.
I feel my heart skip a beat - oh yeah, it's been doing that a lot, lately - and heat coming up to my cheeks and ears.
"Thanks." I said.
"Hold on a sec, are you blushing, Mihi?" He asked.
"No..." I said, not so confidently.
"Oh my god, your ears are red, that happens only when you're a) crying ; or b) blushing." He said.
"Shut up, Rey. We reached my house, pull over." I said.
Rey just laughed and did as I said. After coming to a stop, he got down along with me, and I saw him walk over to the side of my door. He waited till I gathered all of my stuff.
Just as I turned around, he snaked his arms around my shoulders and pulled me in an embrace. I wrapped my arms around his waist and rested my head on his chest. I could hear his heartbeat and for some reason, it just calmed me. I closed my eyes and just stood like that in Rey's arms in the parking lot of the apartment building I lived in. I felt so at peace and so secure, that I could fall asleep in his arms. But I knew that I couldn't do that, so I pulled away and looked up his 5"8 figure. I looked into his eyes and gave him a smile, as if to say 'Thank you'. He smiled back in a way that told me that I never have to thank him for anything. And it just made my heart melt.
I stood on my tip toes and placed a kiss on his cheek. But before I could get down, Rey held my face and looked into my eyes. Suddenly, I was overcome with this feeling. Something very different. Something I had never felt before. Rey's eyes flicked down to my lips a couple of times. Suddenly I felt him leaning in. I felt my heartbeat quicken and for some reason, I was scared.
Was I ready for this? Was I actually ready to kiss my best friend - who I don't have any romantic feelings for, by the way?
He placed a quick kiss on my temple and let go. Without saying anything else, Rey got in his car and took off, leaving me dumbfounded and absolutely clueless as to what just happened.
