I woke up late next morning, and I mean 11 o'clock late. It was a nice change tho. These last few months have almost been sleep deprived. It finally seemed that I could sleep peacefully at night knowing that I wouldn't wake up screaming while being eaten alive.
That thought scared me slightly, I didn't want to die in my sleep. Not like that anyway. I stretched and forced myself out of bed with a loud yawn. I froze in place right as I remembered what day it was, my birthday! I sighed happily as I walked out of my room and down the stairs. Lizzy was no longer sleeping in the couch, you couldn't even tell that the tired girl was ever even here.
I stretched and yawned once again as I slowly walked towards the door, my body finally starting to wake up. I grabbed hold of the door knob and turned it then flung open the door, light immediately pelted down onto my face as I did so, the sunlight still hurt my eyes really bad so I looked away and covered my line of sight as my eyes adjusted to the blinding light.
Then the light slowly faded to a bearable shine, so I looked back out. Outside stood the normal everyday blue house with white shingles that Crissy lived in. I smiled then walked outside. I looked back and forth, everyone looked like they where so busy.
Larry was working in the garden so I headed over. The closer I got I noticed that he had a sickle and was cutting most of the wheat and tying it up with string, laying the pile down then repeat.

"What's up?" I asked Larry while I leaned against Lizzy's house.

"I'm collecting wheat for something, they said where gonna try to make it into bread later today" he replied but didn't look up at me. He only continued to cut wheat.

"Hey look, about Nancy. I'm sorry" I said solemnly and depressingly.

Larry took a deep sigh"look kid, I'm old. Almost fifty seven. I guess my point is that she wouldn't want me being mad and I'm far to old to be getting mad. I don't want a heart attack or something. Well anyway, your dad is back up on his feet if you want to go find him."

"Oh sweet! Do you know where he is?" I asked Larry all happy and fuzzy inside now.

"If I remember correct I think he's helping out in the food supply department. I think anyway" he replied.

"Okay, thank you!" I said as I ran off.

I ran along the track towards the food storage building. The very light blue building that had a garage full of food cans and water bottles on metal shelves. It was about a three hundred twenty five meter distance to the house. Sure enough as I came around the bin I saw the garage door open and I saw Eric and Steven sorting through the shelves.
I walked over to the guys, me gasping for breath due to full out sprinting it there. I bent over and tried catching my breath.

"Hey dad..." I said in a quick second.

"Umm... Happy birthday?" He asked a bit concerned of why I ran so fast.

"Yeah...I'm fine...Just ran...Here to see you..." I gasped as I finally stood up recovered.

"Why'd you run then?" He asked.

"Why not?" I replied"it doesn't matter" I said running over and hugging him."Hey Steven" I said cheerfully as I chanced towards him.

"Hey, happy birthday Holly" he said. Me and my Dad stopped hugging.

"Thank you" I replied with a smile."hey dad, are we doing anything for my birthday?" I asked.

"I don't know, maybe... Something small. With everything going on it's kinda hard." He replied with a serious face on.

"I understand, I really do. As long as we're all alive for my birthday, it's fine." I replied honest a bit bummed out.

"But maybe, it just depends on how things turn out" Steven kicked in.
