CHAPTER TEN

May 22, 2013

"Jake got Zacchya a promise ring. Did you hear? Are you ok?"  Trina's heart stopped beating when she read the text from April.  The walls surrounding her heart caved down upon her. She felt as though the air had been sucked out of her lungs.  How had that happened? She was sure their syrupy sweet romance would end soon.  But no, she was wrong.  She punched the pillow on her bed.  Tears poured down her cheeks.  How had this happened? Her world felt as if it had stopped turning.

She fell helplessly onto her pillow, bawling so hard she couldn't see.  Jacob had promised to be with her, not Zacchya! He had loved HER first! The summer they had dated had been the most magical time of her life.  Every day had been more beautiful, the sun shone brighter when Jacob was with her.

Then Zacchya hit puberty, she got bigger tits and an ass.  The men drooled wherever she went.  Perfect little Zacchya, the thought made Trina wanted to gag.

"She should be a model!" "Oh, she's the sweetest girl ever!" People would say about Zacchya.

Trina had come to hate her.  She was a terrible friend that had stolen Jacob from her.  She had broken the first and most important rule of friendship: Dating your friend's ex without permission! That was too important to break. Trina wanted to bash her pretty little head in.

No one was as perfect as Zacchya claimed to be.  Jacob deserved someone better than that.  Jacob was an amazing man who would do anything to help a friend or a stranger.  He gave his heart fully to everyone.  He was wise beyond his sixteen years.  He seemed to understand things about life than even most adults don't.  He didn't deserve a Barbie doll cut-out like Zacchya.  Perfect Zacchya who had no real problems and was always happy and cheerful. It wasn't fair.

Trina screamed into her pillow.  She wished she had the strength in her heart to just let Jacob go.  He had moved on without her. She was supposed to accept it.  Why couldn't she just move on? People did it every day, took ended relationships as life lessons and moved on.  But the only thing she had learned about the end of their relationships was that he was the only man for her.  As she buried her face into her pillow again, to hide her outpouring of tears, she wondered if she was just being a stupid teenager about it. Was it just some puppy love she couldn't break? No.  She loved him with all her heart.  The sight of him at school every day almost killed her.  It was like he glowed with an ethereal beauty.  He was an angel.

Even when he broke up with her, he was upset about hurting her feelings.  He worried about her, even cried with her.  Jacob was truly a good man. She didn't want anyone else, ever, only Jacob.  She'd just have to deal with it or find a way to break them up.  Through her sadness, only the second option appealed to her.

However, she would play the nice, supportive friend and be there for Jacob and Zacchya. She'd congratulate them, shit; she might even throw them a party, who knew. She wouldn't let them see the pain she felt, the anguish so deep inside of her.  She wouldn't let them see that she'd rather just rip Zacchya's pretty little head off and shove it in a toilet. Nope, not Trina. Trina was a good friend, the best friend, and they'd have a damn hard time proving that she wasn't.

Zacchya and Trevor's seventeenth birthday party was held at Jacob's house. It had a pool in the backyard that all the Misfits were happily swimming in.  The air was filled with the smells of grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, and lemonade.  A random mix of pop songs was blasting from the radio. It felt the way summer should be, happy faces, and good food with friends and family.  Chairs were littered all over the bright green grass filled with aunts, uncles, friends, and Jacob's parents as well.
