Eden's POV
My eyes slowly began to open as I waved my arm around, trying to turn my alarm off to stop the high pitched sound drilling into my brain. After finally hitting the button the horrible noise stopped and I slowly sat up in bed, carefully swinging my legs out of bed and then balancing myself enough to be able to change into my new school uniform. After fiddling with the stiff buttons on my white shirt, epically failing at tying my new blue and black tie and squeezing into the even stiffer and uncomfortable pinafore dress, I quickly brushed my hair, before throwing on my new royal blue jumper and slowly making my way downstairs. My spirits immediately start to lift as I hear laughter from my two younger brothers as I begin to struggle down the stairs. Walking into the kitchen I soon realised that both Buzz and Buddy were laughing at Tom who seemed to have found himself covered in water, along with the floor.
'Morning!' I chorused as I took a seat next to Buddy's high hair and Buzz's seat. Tom had his back to where all three of us were and I could see Buzz physically stopping himself from laughing even more at his dad. 'What are you doing Tom?'
Just by asking what was going on Buzz burst into even more laughter and Buddy joined in purely because Buzz's laugh made him laugh.
'I kinda slipped whilst getting Buddy's drink. It's all over the floor...' Tom began to laugh as he was speaking. 'And me.'
I couldn't help but laugh as he explained the situation he was in just as I was walking down the stairs.
'I'm glad you find it as funny as Buzz does!' Tom laughed, his face turning a light shade of crimson. 'You nervous about today?'
I couldn't help but have to breath in deeply after thinking about today. It's hard enough having to move into a new family, but moving to a new school at the same time is even harder. In a way I'm happy that I'm going to a brand new school though, that way I don't have the issue of people asking where I've been, why my surname has changed and constant sympathetic looks from teachers. Going to a new school, surrounded by new people is still gonna be a struggle though.
'I'm ok at the moment.' I breathed out deeply whilst Tom gave both Buzz and I a glass of water. 'But what do I do if people don't like me?'
'Just be yourself, no one can ever ask for anything more then that. We had to give a bit of background to the school, but they don't know everything ok.' Tom gave me a slightly sympathetic look as he continued to make breakfast. 'They know that you might feel uncomfortable over certain topics. That's all.'
'Ok,' I could only smile lightly back at Tom as I knew that school had to be told something, even if I didn't want them to.
-
An hour and a half later and I found myself in the reception of my new school, alongside Tom as Gi had taken Buzz to nursery. At breakfast Gi had plaited my hair into two Dutch plaits either side of my head and alongside my new Disney vans backpack I could feel myself gaining in confidence slightly as the rest of the students at school walked around the corridors. The reception was the normal thing you would expect at a school; plush blue chairs that complimented the slightly mucky beige walls which was covered in expressive artwork in frames, most likely drawn by the juniors of the school.
Within moments of being in reception my new teacher was there to great me and I was getting to the point where I'd have to say goodbye to Tom, who I had spent most of the past week with, it feels so strange to be hugging him goodbye and entering an unfamiliar school after only a week of becoming a Fletcher. The teacher seemed nice enough though, her short greying hair was cut into a bob-like style and her clothing choice of skinny black jeans and a white blouse top made her look professional, yet soft. I could tell almost instantly that she would be a nice teacher. She introduced herself as Mrs Homes, a name which I was sure I would never struggle to remember.-
'So, what's your name again?' A girl with shoulder length jet black hair and deep brown eyes asked as I slowly sat down to a table minutes after Mrs Homes introduced me to the entire class. I had been instructed to sit on this table and just seconds after the whole class being told my name I already was asking to have it repeated. This could be a long day!
'Eden Fletcher.' I gulped down a lump that had seemed to appear in my throat as the girl began to smile at me widely.
'Great, I'm Alaya.' She introduced, holding out her hand to be shaken. I held onto it lightly as she shook her hand slightly before letting go. 'What happened to your foot?'
'I had to have surgery on it the other day. I broke it a while ago after falling off my bike and it didn't heal right so they straightened it.' I lied whilst opening my pencil case and grabbing a pen, not that I needed it though as today seemed to just be a day of getting everything ready for the next school year.
'Really?' A boy asked with big eyes from the opposite side of the table. I could sense all eyes on me as the teacher told everyone to chat about our summers on our tables, bet mine is a little bit different to everyone else's.
'Yeah.' I confirmed, praying that this would be the end of the slightly awkward conversation and that everyone would begin to chat about summers spent in back gardens having water fights- unfortunately for me, everyone still seemed to want to know more about the new girl.
'So tell us about yourself!' Another girl on the table asked, there were four of us on one table and everyone seemed to be taking their time to ask questions.
'Well,' I started, struggling to think of what to say. 'I'm ten, I live with my mum, dad, my little brother Buzz who's two and my other little brother Buddy who's six months along with our two cats, Leia and Aurora.'
'Sounds like a full house!' Alaya giggled. I smiled widely back.
'We currently have my Aunt, Uncle and cousin staying with us too!' I laughed in reply. It was really nice having lots of people in the house, there was always someone somewhere and it meant I was able to get to know Auntie Giorgie and Uncle Lee (or Chicpea, as everyone else calls him) as well as little Summer Rae who is only a few weeks old.
After a short ten minutes of being able to talk within our tables we were all rounded up and guided to a room filled with musical instruments. It was much like Toms music room except it was beige rather then bright red and slightly bigger. We were all instructed to pick up any instrument we felt like and try and get a noise out of it. Every student in the class seemed to immediately move towards the keyboards at one side of the room whereas I grabbed one of the few guitars off the wall and began to strum it as best I could, trying to remember some of the hand positions Tom had demonstrated to me several days ago. I felt really out of place trying to actually play chords on what sounded to be a very out of tune guitar whilst everyone else spent the entire hour pressing the 'DJ' button on the keyboards and laughing at all the strange noises they were able to make with different settings. I was just in the middle of trying to strum a C when the girl from earlier appeared in front of me.
'You know guitar?' Alaya questioned.
'Kinda,' I began, abandoning the note I was epically failing to play. 'My dad began to show me how to play. I'm not very good but it's fun.' I laughed, and so did Alaya.
'Your dad knows guitar?' Alaya asked intriguingly.
'Yeah, he knows how to play and he teaches people sometimes.' I lied, hoping that no one would realise that I was basically lying through my teeth. I really liked Alaya, she seemed nice and I really didn't want her to only want to be my friend purely because of my parents being 'famous'. Eventually I will have to tell the truth, but it's only my first day and I'd rather be a new girl who was a nobody then a new girl who's daughter to someone seen to be a celebrity.
'Cool.' She stated before walking off, back over to a keyboard surrounded by many girls, who were all chatting and laughing together. I went back to playing chords.
Soon lunch time came around and I found myself being surrounded by the clan of girls whilst eating the lunch Gi had made for me. I was still being bombarded by questions from everyone but found it comforting when I learnt that the other girls in my class were also fans of One Direction, this is something I didn't have at my old school as I wasn't very popular and everyone in my class thought I was weird for liking such a 'rubbish' band.
'So, who's your favourite member?' A girl who I later learned to be called Evie asked.
'Niall or Liam.' I stated before taking a bite out of my slice of banana bread that Buzz and Tom had made yesterday, the sweetness of the bread immediately made me calm down in my still new surroundings.
'Good, at least your not after Harry. He is 100% mine!' Evie smiled back.
'And Louis' mine!' Another girl from across the table announced. I felt myself laughing and laughing until I could even feel the screws in my leg moving from my laughter. I managed to laugh through the pain.-
'First day of school, over!' Tom smiled whilst drawing an imaginary tick in the air as he meets me at reception. I'm being picked us early for the time being so that I don't get bashed into and it makes it much more manageable. I placed my bag on my back as we began to walk out of school. 'How'd it go?'
'It was ok. Met some girls who like 1D but we didn't really do much! Oh, and I got some signatures on my cast!' I stated, motioning towards my foot. 'How was your day?' I smiled as we reached the car and both got in, ensuring my seatbelt was tightly fastened whilst also taking a deep breath to prepare myself for the journey home.
'It was really good. Meetings all went well, AND I even got speaking to a friend of mine who can help with announcement videos.' Tom smiled. 'Sooner or later we need to introduce you to the world of the galaxy defenders so we were discussing ideas and things.'
'It's coming up then!' I stated.
'Yes!' Tom grinned. I quickly noticed that we weren't taking the usual route home as Tom drove down a little side lane close to the school.
'Where are we going?' I ask slowly.
'To an abandoned building where I can kill you and no one will hear your screams!' He laughs.
'You are joking aren't you!' I ask slightly worried as I feel my heart rate rise a tad.
'Of course! I thought we would go somewhere else just before going home.' Tom smiled before turning into a car park for a grave yard. As soon as he pulled up I knew why we were here, and I could feel the fear and sadness beginning to build inside of me.
Neither of us even had to say any words as we begin to walk through the gate and through the winding and ongoing rows of grave stones, Tom stopping just before leaving the car to grab a bunch of flowers from out of the back seat. After a short walk we can to what looked to be a fairly new grave, paired with what also seemed to be a new grave stone.
'This is them?' I asked slowly, even though I already knew the answer as the names James Jonathan Homes and Louise Margret Homes were etched neatly into the dark marble stone.
'It looks like it. Let's brighten it up a little shall we?' Tom smiled lightly at me before kneeling down and beginning to place the stems of the white lillies he had brought into the vase type thing at the foot of the grave stone.
'My mum loved lillies!' I smiled whilst trying to hold in the tears even though it was a mammoth task.
'What a coincidence! I just saw these in the shop and through they would be the best ones.' Tom stated, standing back up and stepping back a little. 'I'll give you a little time.'
He then walked over to the little bench, just over looking the slightly creepy much older grave stones from centuries ago.
I looked down at the grave stone and smiled lightly, knowing that mum and dad would have loved it.
'I had my first day back at school today.' I said suddenly, feeling like a complete idiot for the face that I was talking to a piece of stone whilst my parents were buried 6 foot under it. No matter how strange it sounds though, it's comforting knowing that I'll get no reply yet someone is listening. 'I'm at a new school now, closer to where I live with my new family. I was adopted a few months after you both left, by Tom and Gi. You would both love them, they're both Disney obsessed too, and Toms even wrote songs for One Direction! They are lovely, but I still miss you and I wish you didn't have to go so soon. I love you both.'
Just before turning back, I took one long last look at the beautiful marble stone and mentally made note of the writing etched into it;
