Chapter seven: "a party to attend"

"I don't know what you want me to do," Nia whined beside me, picking up another dress from my wardrobe and turning it to me, "what about this one, huh? It's cute."

My face scrunched up at the pale blue dress in her hands, waving it around slightly as she stared at me with pleading eyes, "Nia, I don't even know if I want to go to this party."

Nia's face fell and she threw the dress onto the bed beside me, crossing her arms across her chest as she stared down at me, a look of disappointment lingering on her face.

"Are you serious?"

"Yes."

"Violet," she droned out, stumbling over to the bed and slouching down beside me, "this is your one and only chance in going to a party, come on you have too."

"Are you saying that I can't be invited to other parties?"

"Yes."

I stared at her with slitted eyes, "I'm not going,"

"Why not? Give me one explanation to why you won't come."

"My cat died?"

"Ha ha, very funny Hemmings," she clapped her hands, exaggerating her sarcasm, "you're allergic to cats."

I rolled my eyes, "look, Luke isn't exactly letting me go out right now, he won't let me go to this party Nia, not to mention my mom is home tonight."

"So what if your mom's home, it's not like she pays attention to you anyway, and I'm sure Luke will understand that your best friend is having some issues with her boyfriend and is in need of a friend." She pouted, hooking my arm with hers as she pulls me up off the bed.

She reaches down and picks up the pale blue dress, forcing it into my arms, "I'll talk to your parents, you can go and put that dress on and look hot, okay?'

I sighed, nodding my head as I grasped onto the material in my hands, "okay, but if I want to leave the party early then I'm leaving."

"Deal," she jumped up, giving me a quick hug as she hurries out of my room until I can just about hear her feet at the bottom of the stairs.

I turned away from the closing door and placed the dress onto the bed again before letting out a groan and falling onto the bed. Calum's party was tonight unfortunately for me, leaving me to be forced to go because Nia thinks I need to 'go out more.' I was perfectly fine with just staying in and watching reruns of Teen Wolf but apparently, that wasn't going to happen.

I looked over to my bed side table, seeing the small slip of paper that Calum had given me about his party. A small smile made its way onto my lips as I reached over to pick it up, reading over the neat words that were scribbled across it.

A sigh escaped my lips when I finally placed the piece of paper own and stood up from the bed grabbing the end of my top and pulling it over my head, if I was going to get Calum to notice me then this was the only way to.

When I was finally dressed, I pulled at the end of the dress I was wearing and stepped up in front of the mirror, I looked down at the pastel colour of the dress and did a little twirl. I've always liked this dress but normally I would just wear it in my own room, I'd never have thought that I'd be wearing it going to a party.

I pulled my hair out of its messy bun, watching as the purple strands fell across my face. My hair was naturally wavy, I guess I was lucky when it came to my hair. I already had make up on, and not wanting Luke to become suspicious in where I was going, I decided to keep it a minimal.

I grabbed hold of my converses, pulling them onto my feet as I reached for a jacket from my wardrobe. I glanced at myself one last time in the mirror before I headed out of the room, grabbing my phone on the way out.

By now it was around six o'clock, leaving us one hour to be there on time, even though I'm sure we won't be. I stepped down the steps and into the kitchen where Nia and Luke were, talking quietly to one another. I always envied Nia when it came to talking to people.

"Is it okay if she stays at mine, then?" Nia asked Luke, smiling up at him.

"You better let me," I spoke up, watching as both of their eyes turned to me.

Luke smiled, nodding his head, "yeah it's fine, I'm letting you off though so don't think you're not grounded." He reminded me.

I rolled my eyes but I couldn't help the smile on my face as I reached up and planted a soft kiss onto his cheek, "thank you."

His lips stretched into a wide grin as he soon flickered his eyes away from me and down at the phone in his hands, picking it up slowly he waved it in front of me, "give me a call if you need anything, okay?"

"Okay," I promised, turning around and grabbing Nia by the wrist. We hurried into the other room and Nia let out a shrill laugh that made me giggle along with her.

"I told you!"

"Yeah, whatever."

She smirked, grabbing her bag from the couch and heading to the front door, "Ashton messaged me like two seconds ago, he's outside."

"Where are we going?"

"To that small diner down the road, I'm starving."

My feet tapped against the floor as I nodded my head slightly to the song being played in the small diner that me, Ashton and Nia were currently sitting in. My finger and thumb fiddled with the straw that was placed into my banana milkshake as I stared up at the couple in front of me.

"Why am I always the third wheel?" I sighed, leaning back in my seat, the booth we were sitting in was towards the back of the small area, not to mention that the majority of the place was empty.

"Oh come on," Ashton giggled, "it's not that bad."

I stared at him, eyes narrowed, as I watched the two. Nia was perched on top of Ashton's lap, even though there was a perfectly good space beside her, and every now and then they would turn around and laugh at some inside joke that I would know nothing about.

In fact, the few people around were giving me sympathetic looks as they turned to glare at the lovesick couple in front of me.

"Don't be such a downer, V." Nia laughed, "maybe if you went out and socialised more."

"What do you think I'm doing now?"

She rolled her eyes, "only because I practically forced you to come out."

"Whatever," I huffed, standing up from the booth. Two eyes watched me with curiosity, "I'm peeing."

I stormed off into the direction of the bathroom, Ashton's chirping voice calling after me, "have fun." Which I only rolled my eyes too and pushed open the bathroom door.

Placing my hand onto my head, I stared at myself through the mirror, at my red cheeks and pale blue eyes. I wanted to go home, I was tired and I could feel a fever coming on, not to mention I really needed to do homework that was unfortunately in for the Monday coming.

I pulled my phone out and read the time, it was currently 7:30pm but I wasn't going to tell Nia that. Maybe she will forget about the party and let me go home instead.

But of course Nia had to stumble into the toilets, a wide grin on her face as she grabbed hold of my arm and pulled me towards the door, "come on, we have a party to attend."
