I walk to my room and flop down on my bed. I let my mind wander. I close my eyes for a minute and think about sitting on the mountain with Ali earlier.
He saw me every day at cross country practice, while we waited for the coach. He saw me. HE saw ME. I mentally scream. I told him that I noticed him at football practice every day, and he didn't get creeped out.
This trip is turning out so much better than I ever expected it to. I stand up and gather up my pajamas. I open my door and walk to the bathroom. I tell Dad that I am getting the shower as he walks up the stairs.
"Okay, I am about to put the chili in the pot. Should be thawed by the time you get out of the shower," He says. "Don't use up all the hot water, there are 3 more people that need to shower."
"Okay, I won't."
I lock the door and take my shower. When I get out, I put on my pajamas, and then decide to braid my hair in long braids. I will leave them in overnight and then my hair will be wavy when I decide to take them out. I hang up my towels and leave the bathroom.
The boys were playing PS4 of course. I ran upstairs to see if Dad needed any help, like the good child that I am. Alas, I will have to be a good child some other time, for dinner was already ready.
"You guys can just eat at the counter today, I don't feel like clearing off the table, and I will just try to catch up on my work emails," Dad says, motioning to the table with the laptop and the other junk on the table.
"Okay sounds good," I reply. "The chili smells so good!"
"Yes, it does. It is ready now. Can you get the boys from downstairs?"
"Sure." I walk downstairs. "Guys, dinner is ready."
"Finally, I am starving," Shawn dramatically says. Shawn runs upstairs. I walk to the bathroom to wash my hands, Ali pauses before walking up the stairs.
"Running," he says
"Football," I say back with a smile.
He smiles back and then proceeds to walk up the stairs. I step into the bathroom and when he is out of sight and earshot, I squeal to myself and do a sort of happy dance.
Okay calm down I think to myself. I walk back stairs and get myself a bowl and some chili and sit down on a stool at the counter. I sit next to Ali, on the end of the counter, so that Ali is sitting between Shawn and me.
"What's the plan for tomorrow? Like how early do we all need to wake up and leave for the mountain?" Ali asks.
"Umm, we don't need to be out of here as early as this morning, so maybe wake up around 7:30 or 7:45, and leave the house around 8:15-30," Dad replies.
"Okay, so we get to sleep a little longer, that's good," Ali nods.
After Ali finishes talking to my dad, he turns back around to his food. As he does this his knee gently brushes against mine. Though his knee only touched mine for a few seconds, I feel my hands start to get sweaty.
Of course being the person that I am, I start to over think the situation.
Did he do it on purpose? On accident? Did he notice my sweaty hands? Why are my hands so sweaty? It was barely a touch why did my heart beat speed up so much? Did he even notice the touch at all? Probably not I decide, it was only for a brief moment after all.
"Haylee!" Shawn shouts.
I leave my train of thought. "What?"
"I said your name like five times, why do you keep doing that?" Shawn asks.
