"Oh no," You muttered. "No, no, no, no." He didn't look good. A bruise covered his eye, cut lip, cuts on his forehead and his armor looked like it had been dragged through hell. You gently put your hand on his cheek and put two fingers to his pulse. He was alive. His unbruised eye opened a little bit, immediately drawn to yours.
"(Y/N)?" He said in a weak voice. He placed his hand on your wrist.
"It's me, Keith," You said gently. "It's ok, we're going to get you out of here."
"No, you have to go. They'll kill you."
"Keith, I'm not going anywhere without you."
The door slammed aside behind you, and you whipped your head around to come face to face with Haggar. Shit, you thought to yourself. There was a moment of pure silence, and you took it to activate your bayard. It took the shape of an archer's bow. You swung the bow in a quick fashion, swiftly hooking the curved end around the witch's feet, hurling her onto the ground.
She disappeared from the floor and you looked around, eyes darting around the room. A bolt of lighting shot from the ceiling and would've struck you if you hadn't rolled out of the way. She appeared behind you again. You got up on your knee, quickly notching an arrow onto your bow's string, pulling your arm back and taking aim at the witch. She smirked evilly, and you didn't hesitate to release your arrow. It whizzed toward the witch, but she was quick and teleported herself behind you again.
"You missed," She spat. She took a moment too long to gloat, and a red blade pressed against her throat.
"No, I didn't."
Keith released her, and she wheeled around on him. You loaded another arrow and shot, hitting her kneecap that sent an electric shock. You sprinted for the door, grabbing Keith's forearm and dragging him behind you. You made it out just before another blast of lightening hit the door you had been in front of just moments before.
Keith lost his balance, nearly falling before you caught him, putting his arm around your shoulders and continued running down the hall, dodging laser blasts along the way. Pidge rigged the doors to close immediately after you ran through them, which slowed the guards down. You skidded to a halt when you reached a four-way hallway, "Pidge, a little help!" You exclaimed. "I'm right here!" The green paladin's voice rang out. You faced where the voice had come from, seeing Pidge running towards you. "This way!" You followed her through the halls. You reached the hangar that the red lion was being kept in and dashed through the door. It's barrier lowered in Keith's presence. "Let me go, I can fly," Keith said. "Keith, you're in no condition to pilot Red, we have to get you back to the castle," you said firmly. "I can do it, I'm fi-" Keith groaned and clutched his side. Pidge tapped the tablet under her arm, making the hangar doors open to reveal the vastness of outer space. The white and green lions were already flying out from their hiding spots to reach you.
You and Keith quickly got into the white lion and Pidge to the green. Red shot out of the hangar as if clearing a path. Your lions followed suit and joined the rest of the paladins. "We got him," You said to the others. "Allura, open a wormhole," Shiro said.
Just as the castle was turning around, the Galra ship shot a large beam at the castle. "Allura, are you ok?!" You said through the com. "I'm alright, but the infirmary has been damaged. We need to get out of here."
"Alright, team, let's set up a distraction and buy some time. (Y/N), while we have their attention, get Keith into the castle," Shiro directed. "Copy that," you said. The lions took off altogether towards the back of the ship, causing beams to shoot out at them. You directed your attention to the task at hand and pushed the throttle as fast as it could go back to the castle. Your lion shot forwards, the red lion right beside you.
A laser blast barely missed your lion's side, causing Red to barrel roll out of the way. You turned and shot a blast back at one of the cannons, causing it to explode. You kept moving towards the castle, more shots blasting towards you. Just as you were about to enter the castle, a large laser hit your lion's back, causing you to spiral off course. You grasped the throttle and spun out of the way just as another blast shot through where you just were. "Come on, stay with me," you muttered more to yourself than anyone else. Red swooped in closer and shot the cannon with her firepower. The two of you pushed as fast as you could go before you finally reached the castle, zooming into the hangar. You and the Red landed.
"Princess, the ship has lost its cannons," you heard Shiro's voice in your helmet. "Good, come back to the castle. We're getting out of here," Allura replied.
You helped Keith stand and supported him, you pulled his arm around your shoulders. You rushed out of your lion and to your room. You set him down on the bed and ran to the door. "I'm going to be right back," you said to him before sprinting down the hall to the infirmary. It was damaged, but surely you could find something that would help. You rummaged through the debris until you spotted a small box with towels and bandages. You grabbed them and ran back to your room. Keith was laying there, grasping his side.
You took your helmet off and threw it aside and kneeled by the bed. You pulled his chest plate off so you could see the wound better. He was beaten pretty badly all over, but your main concern was the deep cut on his side. You remembered that Coran once made a drink for you and said there was a flower in it that was like the Altean equivalent of anti-infection. You got up and ran out of the room to the kitchen.
"Coran, can you make me a paste out of that anti-infection flower?" You said, skidding to a stop.
"Of course," he said before moving quickly out of the room. He came back shortly after with a few of the flowers and began to grind them up, adding some liquids to make it pastier faster. "Now, it'll probably hurt a bit when applied to the skin, so be gentle," Coran said. Soon it was done and saying a quick thank you, you grabbed the paste and raced back to your room.
You sat on the edge of the bed and dabbed the towel in the paste.
"This might hurt a little," you said before gently dabbing at the wound. Keith groaned a little as you applied the paste.
"Why did you come after me?" Keith said. You paused, thinking if you had heard him right. Your eyes met his, and you knew he was serious.
"I couldn't just not come," You said. "Keith, you know me better than that. I've lost too much to watch another person I care about just walk out of my life because they think they're doing what's best." You put your hand on his battered cheek. His eyes told you he was exhausted.
"I just wanted to keep you safe. And I thought that turning myself in would make them focus on me more than you and the team," he said in a quiet voice.
Your expression softened. The red paladin propped himself up on his elbows.
"Keith, you really shouldn't-"
"I didn't want you to get hurt because of me. I'm not letting that happen. Not again."
His face inched closer to yours. Your arms wrapped around his neck and his hands cupped your cheeks. Your lips met and it was soft and quick. You pulled away, but his lips found yours once more and it lasted longer that the last one. He pulled you closer, kissing you harder. You separated, slightly out of breath.
"I should go, you need to rest," you made to get up, but Keith caught your wrist.
"Wait, j-just stay," he said. "Please."
You looked at him for a moment and then laid down next to him.
His hand swept a few stray strands of hair from your eyes and let his hand rest on your cheek. You and Keith stayed that way, until you both drifted off to sleep.
