to begin, do not start your story off by describing your character like, 'hi, my name is kayla dora diarrhea trump. i am 13 years old and i have dark brown hair with purple and pink streaks. my shirt is from hot topic! i have black eyeliner on and black fishnet stockings on. I AM NOT EMO THO!!1!11 i am so pale, i look like a sexy vampire. i have bright red lipstick. i also am wearing thigh-high combat boots. my sparkling orbs are a shade of deep dark red'.

no. no. no. no.

even if your story is first person narrative it is cringy and downright awful to start with 'hi, my name is...'
the same thing goes for the 'looking in the mirror and describing my looks' cliche.

TIPS;

you don't have to describe all your character's features in one go. Drop clues here and there so the readers gradually get a strong picture of the character.

or have another character in the story comment on the characters look. for example, 'wow y/n, your hair is getting so long! soon you'll look like rapunzel!'
this implies that the character has long blond hair, without directly saying it.

your character could also compare themselves to their family members. have them say things like, 'unlike the rest of my family, i have a round face scattered with freckles. whereas they have thin sculpted faces, bare of any birthmarks or freckles'.

do not describe poc's (people of color's) skin color as a food. just don't. it's offensive. don't say 'her dark chocolate mocha skin glowed in the sun'. just say something like 'her dark skin glowed in the sun'.
