So. Periods suck. This chapter is for every girl wether you have started or not. I will share my story on my first time ever and then tell you tips and rules to help you survive your "monthly visit."
So. I started in the summer time. I was at home getting ready for something maybe a couple days before I started and I notice that my panties had brown stuff everywhere. (Gross I know.) no it's not poop. chill.
It's natural for this to happen. I was scared so I told my mom. Her being a teacher she told me a story of a student she had once who ask my mom for help about this too.
The brown stuff is what my mom called "a warning." This only happened on my first period. She told me to wear a panty liner. (If you don't know what that is it's not exactly a pad but it's just like a padded sticker that goes on the inside of your panties.)
So when I actually started: It was around lunchtime and I was just then changing out of my pjs. As I was changing I felt something leak out of my vagina. I went to the bathroom and checked if it was my time. It was...
I ran down to my mom not knowing what to do. I was in complete panic. She calmed me down and told me to sit on the toilette.
It took maybe 30 minuets to stop leaking constantly. The flow was heavy and blood was thick and there was A LOT. It's ok. There's supposed to be.
Later that day we went out to eat and I changed my pad for the first time. I was scared at all the blood considering I didn't feel it leaking like I did the first time.
It depends, sometimes you can feel it and sometimes you can't.
Ok so that was my story... Sorry it wasn't funny or embarrassing. Now for the tips...
Tips:
1. Always have more pads and tampons than you need. This relives stress and avoids accidents.
2. This one is for beginners: Tampons are scary to you. I know. I remember when I only used pads. Then my friends birthday/swim party was the weekend of my 3rd month. You have to wear tampons in a pool. I tried it and it was wayyyyy better. You don't have to change near as often and it's a better chance of keeping your pants from being red.
3. Wear tampons when you sleep. If you don't, then blood might seep through your butt crack and all over your bed. And also, you have to wake up every 3 hours to change when you wear pads.
Ok. Now this is what to expect while on your period:
Day #2 is the heaviest flow. It's when you body actually realized what's happening and then goes overboard. I wear a tampon and a pad on these days.
Cramps... They are a beast. Just keep telling yourself that you are not giving birth because that's what it feels like.
Know that you will be having ridiculous mood swings. One second you will be happy and the next you want to punch a wall for no reason.
^This was totally me today.
Remember that while changing into gym clothes girls might see your pad 'wings' that hug the panties so it stays on. I go to the stalls and change when I wear a pad.(like on my day #2s)
You need to warn your friends about the mood you will be in because if not, they might think you are mad because they did something wrong.
Also always tell your friends to 'check' your butt for leaks every now and then.
Another thing with friends is to tell them to manage what you eat. The craves that that come along with your period might get out of hand. Your period is not an excuse to eat more than you would!
Ok now rules and my personal tricks.
My trick: If you know you need to change and your teacher won't let you go to the bathroom, have your purse and signal to it while you ask to go. I did this today and she understood right away.
Rule: know that for the first couple of months, your schedule won't be exact. I know. It's a pain in the ass!
Trick: if you are getting ready fast and you don't want to bring a purse somewhere that you won't be long, hid a pad or tampon in your boots. This only works with shoes that go above your ankle. (Converse, Uggs, combat boots, doc martins, yadda yadda yadda.)
Rule: while wearing a pad only, don't sit leaning back on something like a wall and don't lay down on your back. You will get a butt full of blood and your pants will get red. -_- trust me...
Trick: Stock up your locker with 2 tampons or pads at all times. You never know when your going to get a 'surprise visit.'
Trick: if you have a calendar mark every 28 days from your first period with a symbol that stands for your reminder that that's the day you need to be most prepared. I have my iPhone calendar with a red emoji every 28 days. This helps a ton!
I wish you luck with my advice and it hope you didn't get grossed out by it. Sorry. Lol. But I really do think this is useful. Ok whale, buiiii!👋
