*~*~*

The rushing water was cool on her feet as she stuck them in the river, lifting the skirts of her dress so as to not get them wet. The rocks beneath her were slick with moss and grime, and she wiggled her toes with a gentle smile, inhaling the crisp air of spring as the gentle breeze pushed through the curtains of her (h/l), (h/c) hair.

It was one of the rare days in which she was allowed out of the shop to explore; escorted, of course, by her older brother.

"Careful, (F/n)." Kaede, warned, glancing up from sharpening his sword. "You could slip and fall in."

(F/n)'s lips turned upwards into a slight smirk as she glanced back at her brother, her (e/c) colored eyes dancing with amusement.

"You worry far too much about me, dear brother," she said in that airy voice of hers. "Do you really deem me so incompetent that you find me incapable of standing safely within a foot of water? Even if I were to fall in, all I would have to do is get right back up."

And as if to prove a point, she leapt into the air and splashed back down, laughing pleasantly as she did. The water soaked her skirts, chilling her skin as it splashed against her legs and arms, but the smile never left her face.

Kaede simply rolled his eyes at his younger sister, although he had to suppress a grin at her behavior. (F/n) was usually such a timid, solemn, person. She rarely spoke above a whisper, and laughing was nearly out of the question for her.

It was refreshing to see her in such a happy state.

"Don't blame me when you get swept away by the current, then," he grunted, returning to his sword as his sister laughed at him. He glided his hand across the smooth metal, admiring his work. The sharp blade reflected the light from the sinking sun, glittering in a way that was both beautiful and dangerous. Kaede nodded to himself in approval. "Are you ready to head back to the shop?"

The young (h/c) looked up from the river, her smile faltering only slightly. Truthfully, she could have sat and enjoyed the water for hours, had she been allowed.

But, in such dangerous and violent times as these, it wasn't wise to stray too far from home for extended periods of time.

Especially for her.

A sigh found its way to her lips, and (F/n) nodded her head, climbing up the bank towards her brother. The light, carefree attitude she had possessed previously had diminished, and she looked on sullenly as Kaede guided her back towards the village.

They had been walking for about five minutes when she looked up.

"Oh, I've forgotten my shoes!"

Kaede sighed, slowing to a stop as he ran a hand through his chestnut hair. He muttered to himself quietly before turning an annoyed glance towards his sister. "Be quick, okay? I'll wait for you here."

(F/n) nodded quickly, turning on her heel and dashing back towards the river. Once she was out of Kaede's sight, she grinned to herself and slowed her pace to a walk.

She'd do anything to stay outside a little bit longer.

The sound of rushing water soon filled her ears as she finally reached the riverbank. (F/n) looked around slowly, locating her shoes among the tall grasses and weeds. They were exactly where she left them, and she gracefully walked over to slip them on.
