*~*~*

"Hey, Lee?" I blew a strand of (h/c) hair out of my eyes as I regarded my close friend, who was currently engrossed in some kind of strange mediation that involved him standing on his head for extended periods of time. Just looking at him made my own head throb, and quite frankly I was growing bored with watching him do it. He had been sitting in that position well over an hour, and truth be told, I was desperately hoping for him to pay a bit more attention to me.

Over the years of knowing him, I had grown increasingly fond of the optimistic, if not slightly eccentric, shinobi. His determination and loyalty, as well as the respect with which he treated anyone he came into contact with, were all admirable traits that I couldn't help but fall for. Yet, for some undeterminable reason, I hadn't yet admitted my feelings for him.

I was so consumed with these thoughts that I hadn't even noticed that Lee had stopped his meditation to sit in the grass in front of me. His eyebrows furrowed with concern at what must have been an incredibly stressed out look on my face.

"What is it, (F/n)-chan?" He questioned, staring at me through those large, dark eyes of his. I froze, temporarily forgetting why I had called out to him in the first place.

"I forgot," I admitted sheepishly, scratching the back of my neck with a nervous chuckle. Lee only nodded his head.

"Then I must get back to meditating," he said, and I groaned.

"What's so meditative about letting all the blood rush to your head, anyways? You look silly." I pouted. I wasn't so sure I could handle another hour of watching him meditate like that.

"Guy-sensei said it will strengthen my endurance." I rolled my eyes at him before smirking, a light bulb suddenly going off in my head.

"Yeah, well what does Guy-sensei know about anything?" I teased, folding my arms over my chest. "I could have taught you that." Lee frowned at this.

"Please do not belittle Guy-sensei, (F/n)-chan."

Of course, I didn't mean what I had said – in fact, I respected Guy-sensei almost as much as Lee did (just not enough to rock the green jumpsuit...). But like I said, I was utterly and completely bored – and this was one way to get Lee to pay attention to me.

So, with a flippant wave of my hand, I challenged: "Or what?"

Lee didn't seem to take the bait. He looked at me seriously, frown still in place, and replied: "Or I will not be very happy."

I chuckled. "Come on, is that all the Handsome Devil of the Hidden Leaf has to say? What happened to all that endurance training, huh?" I nudged him gently in the shoulder. "Don't tell me you're scared of little ol' me?" His eyebrows scrunched together for a moment before he realized that I was only teasing him. A slow smile spread across his face.

"Of course not, (F/n)-chan," he said, grinning confidently. At this, I leaned forward and whispered in his ear.

"Then prove it." And with that, I shot up from my seat on the grass and took off running through the training field – knowing damn well that I had no chance in beating him.

I could hear his shoes crunching in the grass behind me, but I kept my eyes focused forward as I shot through the field and into the trees bordering the perimeter. I knew he was purposely giving me a head start, he always did whenever we raced.

Just as I broke through the trees and into a small clearing, I felt a pair of arms wrap around my waist, causing me to tumble to the ground. I squealed at being caught, but quickly rolled us over so that I was on top.

I was giggling like a lovesick school girl as I tried to wrestle his arms down, but he was far too strong, and by the looks of it, he was done letting me win.

With one swift motion, my back was once again pressed into the cool earth with Lee grinning above me. My chest felt like exploding – whether it was from the physical exertion of running or from his close proximity, I wasn't sure.

"It looks as though you are the one who needs the endurance training, (F/n)-chan." Lee chuckled, leaning back so that I could sit up. "Perhaps Guy-sensei could help?"

I laughed at him, feeling completely elated. Without really thinking about it, I wrapped my arms around the green-clad ninja and pulled him into a tight hug.

He froze for a moment, perhaps shocked at my uncharacteristic display of affection, before he wrapped his arms tightly around me. He sat back in an Indian-style fashion and pulled me onto his lap. I nuzzled my face into the crook of his neck and relaxed in his embrace, relishing in this wonderful moment.

Perhaps I should tease him more often...
