"Don't look down."

(F/n) huffed, squeezing her eyes shut tightly as she pressed her head into the bark of the tree. Her arms and legs could barely circle around the diameter of the trunk, and she dug her nails into the wood to hold herself up.

"Easy for you to say," she mumbled sourly as the ground beneath her shook. It was taking everything she had to not fall to her death, or at least right into the stampede of angry cattle below. Kakashi, using his chakra, was hanging easily somewhere in the branches above.

Her sensei tutted. "Now, (F/n), remember who got us into this situation." His tone was light and teasing, causing an embarrassed flush to spread up her neck and into her cheeks. A color which she hoped he would interpret as anger. (F/n) groaned.

"It's not my fault," she called up to him, still squeezing her eyes tight. "You're the one that spooked them!"

"No," Kakashi corrected, "I spooked you. It was you screaming like a wild animal that spooked them. Now focus your chakra."

Focus your chakra, she mocked silently, pulling a face which she knew he saw based on the light chuckling above. (F/n) took a deep breath. She shifted her weight, bringing her knees forward until her feet were flat on the trunk. Then she focused on localizing her energy to the bottoms of her feet. A slight thrumming could be felt, but the angry grunting below and constant shaking of the tree made it difficult to focus.

"Can't you just help me?!" She called up, her anger rising. Kakashi merely tutted once again, causing her to dare peek an eye open. Once she glimpsed him, both eyes widened. "ARE YOU REALLY READING A BOOK RIGHT NOW?!"

Yelling was a bad choice. The cattle below, startled once again by her screaming, began thrashing and bellowing in fright.

And that was when she looked down. "Oh shiiii –"

But as she fell backwards into the stampede, a pair of hands quickly wrapped around her arms, pulling her upwards and onto a larger branch above.

"Language," Kakashi scolded once he set her down. He resumed his place in his book. (F/n) stared at him, bewildered.

"I almost died, and that's what you're concerned with?"

He peered an eye over the top of the page. "Don't be dramatic."

Her mouth dropped open, but she quickly shut it, a devious thought popping into her head. She thought back to her previous trainings with the masked nin.

(F/n) had been training under Kakashi for several months now. Though she had dropped out of the academy right before graduating, now that she was of age and willing to fight for the village (especially due to the desperate need for ninja with the upcoming war), she had been allowed to train under the guidance of a jounin. With her background at the academy, she knew some of the basic concepts required. Applying them was a different story.

Her pairing with Kakashi had been mere chance. At the time she had offered her services to the village, (F/n) was in need of a sensei and Kakashi had just become available, his team having temporarily split up to train under different mentors (with the exception of Sasuke, who decided to train under a pervert instead – oh the irony of that now, she thought).

It was after a particularly grueling training that she had finally discovered the famous Copycat Ninja's weakness.

"How was that, senpai?"

It had been in jest, (F/n) calling him that. In fact, Gai was the one who had recommended it, though he said only to get under his skin when she wanted (which was all the time). Kakashi had been frustrating her, taunting her relentlessly as usual in that 'laidback, I'm cool, blah, blah, blah' kind of way. So, she had decided to take Gai's advice, sliding the word in after finally landing a hit during their spar.

The effect was immediate. So much so, that the next hit she threw landed square in his face, after his eyes had widened and he had made a slight choking noise in his throat. Kakashi flew backwards, landing on the ground a couple feet away.

Ever since, she had peppered the word in any chance she could – reaching similar, if not better, reactions each time.

Bringing her back to the present. Kakashi was leaning against the trunk casually, flipping through the pages of his book, while she stared up at him – still a bit shaken from her near-death experience.

She feigned a look of worry, scrunching her eyebrows slightly and trembling her lower lip. Her eyes even began to water, impressing herself as they did. Puppy dog face in place, she batted her eyes as she spoke.

"Thank you so much for saving me, senpai," she cooed, sniffling a tiny bit for effect. Kakashi froze, looking extremely uncomfortable. Though his book hid what little of his face showed, she could see the shade of his ears reddening slightly. She stifled a grin. "I'm so lucky to have such a caring senpai to -"

"Don't say anymore!" Kakashi shouted dramatically, covering his ears as his book dropped to the ground. Without even glancing at her, he leapt away into the trees, disappearing as quickly as he could.

(F/n) huffed. He could have at least helped her down.

A week later, a knock sounded at (F/n)'s door. Kakashi had been avoiding her since the cattle incident, much to her relief – her muscles and sanity needed a break from him and his crazy training methods. Yet when (F/n) opened her apartment door, she was surprised to see him waiting outside. (F/n) scoffed.

"Finally come to apologize for abandoning me in that tree?" She quipped, folding her arms as she glared up at him.

Kakashi chuckled nervously. "Uh, not exactly. Actually, I was wondering..." He trailed off slowly, scratching the back of his neck. (F/n) felt nervous heat rush to her cheeks. The anticipation was killing her.

"Yes?"

"...Have you seen my book anywhere?"

(F/n) deadpanned, promptly slamming the door in Kakashi's face.

A moment later she returned, scowl in place and holding the book between her fingers. "This what you're looking for?" She waved it teasingly, pulling it away right before Kakashi could grab it. "What's so special about it anyway, hm?" She pestered, preparing to open the book. Kakashi lunged forward, shouting in protest, but she side-stepped him, beginning to read aloud.

"His arms, so strong around her, lifted her to the table –" she jumped on the couch as Kakashi reached for her, leaping over the back of it as she walked backwards toward the kitchen. "– Hana had never been this close to a man before. His scent was intoxicating –" She ducked under his arms, climbing onto the counter in her kitchen area. "AND ALTHOUGH SHE WAS NERVOUS –" (F/n) shouted over Kakashi's protests, leaping from the counter and heading back towards the living room "– HANA KNEW SHE WAS READY. SHE WAS PREPARED TO DO ANYTHING FOR –"

Kakashi had finally grabbed the book, but it was too late.

"Her senpai," (F/n) finished, wide-eyed and red-faced.

The two stood in awkward silence.

"Sooooo...I'll try to avoid you other than in training?" He finally asked.

"Sounds good." She agreed.

"And you promise to never bring this up? To anyone?"

"Absolutely not."
