*~*~*

By the time Kiba had found the location, the sun had completely disappeared over the horizon. A sliver of a moon had taken its place, peeking out from the clouds overhead and shining a dull light onto the darkened road. The night itself was calm, a stark contrast to the battle of emotions raging within him. Kiba's heart pounded loudly in his ears.

What was he thinking? He wasn't prepared for this. He was a fool for following these coordinates – following directions from an unknown number? And alone? Complete idiocy. He should have taken the messages to the cops so they could do a proper investigation.

And say what, he thought to himself with a scowl. Hello officer, I received a random text message today and I think it might be from my dead fiancée? Kiba scoffed. As if that would go over very well with the police department.

And it was this thought precisely that solidified his resolve. This was something he knew had to do himself, and he needed to do it alone. So, with a deep breath and a firm nod, he unbuckled his seatbelt and quietly exited the car, closing the door silently behind him.

The neighborhood was dead, which was both good and bad. It was good, because he wasn't as likely to be spotted sneaking between the neatly-kept houses, or climbing over the perfectly painted picket fences. The weight of both the knife he had tucked in his boot last minute and the pistol that was holstered around his waist felt extra heavy at this thought. The last thing he needed was to be caught by the police as he was breaking into a ritzy neighborhood. And armed, at that.

It was bad, however, because if the situation turned out to be more dangerous than he was already anticipating, there would be no one around to hear his call for help. He would be utterly and completely screwed if things turned sideways, which was very likely considering what he was about to do.

But what if it turns out to be nothing at all?

That thought had crossed his mind more than once since he'd arrived, but he quickly pushed it aside. He had come too far to turn back now.

Kiba swallowed his anxiety, quelling his fear with thoughts of (F/n) and using those thoughts to drive himself forward. He walked down the paved road for half a block, following the sidewalk to a driveway that led to a large, white house – the very house that appeared on his maps when he had typed the coordinates into his phone.

The house itself was dark, aside from a single light in a room upstairs. He wondered if anyone was even home – now that he was here, he had no idea what he was supposed do next. He had only planned so far ahead.

What he did know was that if he waited out front any longer, someone was sure to spot him. With just a moment's hesitation, he ducked around the side of the garage and followed it towards the backyard, leaning heavily against the fence as he collected his thoughts.

He decided that he could do one of two things: knock on the door with the excuse of needing help, or break in through the back door.

The first idea had the potential to backfire. Whoever was inside, if anyone was inside, could refuse to help him and simply slam the door in his face.
