NARRATOR P.O.V.
Gia sat with her friends at lunch, chewing on her sandwich like every other day. Her eyes wandered away from her group of friends over to the other side of the cafeteria. She scanned the tables until her eyes stopped on one guy. A smile played on her lips. Johnny Cade. Gia and Johnny were pretty good friends, and talked often, but Gia had a crush on Johnny, constantly longing for more from their relationship.
Johnny then locked eyes with her and she hurriedly looked away, her cheeks turning red. She looked back up at him and he gave a cute smile. She couldn't help but giggle in return to his goofy smile. "Go ask him out already." Her friend whispered in her ear. "He likes you, I can see it!"
She shook her head, "No, I couldn't."
Her friend sighed. "Whatever, live with your constant pain." She said with a mouth full of fries.
"I'm fine with the pain, but I am going to ask him for help on the math homework."
Gia stood, picking up her lunch tray. She started to make her way over to where Johnny sat with his friends when she saw a group of girls approaching. Socs, nothing but trouble. She thought. Her step slowed as some of the girls giggled and walked toward her. Gia shifted and turned around to go the other way. She swung around just to be confronted by another soc girl.
The pretty, popular girl threw her hands up, dumping her lunch tray all over Gia. "Now you match! Dirty clothes for a dirty greaser!" She cackled.
Only now did Gia realized that the whole cafeteria was silent, and looking at them. Gia looked down at her ruined clothes, covered in the soup that was on the soc girls tray. Gia pressed her lips together and sat her lunch down. She began to walk calmly towards the doors out of the cafeteria, but she felt tears build up in her eyes, so she began to run out, leaving the cafeteria in its still silence.
Johnny had seen the whole thing along with the rest of the school. He felt terrible and got up in a jog, following Gia out the door. "Hey where ya going?!" Pony called from behind him.
Johnny disregarded his friend and kept running, out the door and into the hallway. The hall was silent as he skid to a halt. The faint sound of crying broke his heart as he turned the corner. There he saw Gia, one of the few people he considered his best friend, sitting on the floor, crying with her head in her hands. He approached almost silently.
"Hey G." His voice quiet and apologetic.
Gia lifted her head in surprise. When she saw it was Johnny, she quickly wiped her face and turned her head away from him. "Go away Johnny." She mumbled.
Johnny shifted on his legs and furrowed his eyebrows. "C'mon." He held his hand out to her.
Gia looked at his hand unsure. She looked up to his kind face. He lifted his eyebrows telling her with his expression to take his hand. She bit her lip and redundantly took his hand, him lifting her up. He held her hand as they walked into the near by girl's bathroom. He locked the door behind them as she lifted herself up onto the counter.
Johnny wadded up some paper towels and wet them under the sink next to her. "I'm real sorry about what happened back there." He said, his voice low and gravelly.
"Eh." She chuckled sadly. "It's whatever." She shrugged.
Johnny came over and stood in front of her, his face just inches away from hers. He dabbed her face with the towels, wiping off some of the food and all of the tears. "Ah, there's that beautiful face." He whispered, making her heart flutter.
"Thanks Johnny." She whispered, matching his tone.
He looked into her eyes, slowly moving closer. "Anything for you." He said so softly it was almost inaudible.
She could feel her heart beat a million miles an hour as their faces came closer. To them both, it felt like a million year before their lips finally touched, sending thrilling chills down Gia's back and an explosion of excitement through Johnny. They kissed for a long time, Gia running her fingers through his hair and Johnny placing his hand on the back of her neck.
When the kiss finally broke, Gia couldn't help but smile along with Johnny. "Be my girl?" He asked, looking into her brown eyes.
Gia bit her lip to keep back a smile, but it didn't work. She smiled and nodded, leaning in for another kiss. Their smiling kiss was interrupted by a loud bang on the bathroom door. "C'mon," He said, placing his forehead on hers. "Let' go get you a change of clothes."
Gia giggled as Johnny helped her off the counter. When they opened the door, the all-too-familiar soc girl stood their, surprised by Johnny being in their with her. "It's a girl's bathroom not a hood bathroom." She scowled.
"You're right," Gia smiled, grabbing her boyfriend's hand. "It's a girl's bathroom, that means it's not for trash like you. The dumpsters out back I think."
Johnny laughed out loud as the smirk was wiped from her face. Gia let out a giggle as they jogged off, leaving school to change and go see a movie. "Hey," Gia said as they walked. "Can you help me out with that math homework?"
"Anything for you."
