Chapter 14: Bad News POV- Kara
It never felt so good to be spilling out your problems to someone. Even more when you’re sitting on his lap stuck like a leech onto him. Oops, I better let go before I suffocate poor Zayn, I thought, loosening my grip on his waist. I sighed. Zayn was looking at me with sympathy in his hazel eyes. “You can tell me,” Zayn said, smiling sadly at me. “I don’t like to see people that I’m fond of cry.”
I tried a smile for Zayn. Then, taking a deep breath, I started. “My sister, Lilly Ana, was coughing last week very mildly. She had a normal head cold. Then, when I flew here, I thought it would go away but I guessed wrong. My mom just called me to tell me some bad news,” I inhaled shakily. “Lilly Ana’s cough had developed into a chest infection. Normally you only need medicine to make it stop; it goes away very quickly. But Lilly Ana has asthma, so the chest infection was too much for her. When my mom came upstairs to say goodnight, Lilly Ana was acting strangely, like she was on anesthetic. She was acting confused and becoming giddy. Mom took her to the hospital, leaving Dad alone with Matt and Hannah. The doctor said because the infection had a major affect on her asthma, she wasn’t breathing properly and that she was slowly suffocating. She could have died.” I turned pale from the thought. “Oh my God, she can still die.” I started bawling again, stuffing my face in Zayn’s shirt.
“Shh, shh,” he cooed. “Look at me, Kara,” he held my shoulders, forcing me to face him. “Take the next plane trip back to California. See your sister. It doesn’t matter if you miss the next performance that you’re supposed to sing here. If they really think you’re a good singer, they’ll want you back,” Zayn said, staring into my eyes, puffy from crying. “Keep that in mind, love,” he smiled at me.
“Zayn,” I started, hugging him. “You’re the best friend a girl could ever have,” I said, burying my nose into the crook of his neck. “You keep that in mind.”
