jaebum doesn't leave him alone for the next few days.
like, never.
he always picks him up to go to school. sends him a text every two hours. comes to pick him up after school. and even spends every night with him.
youngjae isn't complaining much but he doesn't understand this sudden change in jaebum's behavior but he's not sure he wants to ask the older. he suspects it's because of their encounter with his ex at the restaurant.
"yeah, hyung. i'm home," youngjae says as he unlocks the door to his apartment.
"good. i have a night shift today so i can't come over. are you going to be okay?" jaebum asks and it makes youngjae roll his eyes.
"yes. stop worrying so much. i'm a grown man in case you forgot," he retorts, letting himself on the couch.
"baby..." jaebum says softly but there's some kind of warning behind it.
"fine, i'll see you tomorrow."
he hangs up, feeling a bit irritated by his boyfriend and turns on the tv. he doesn't reply to the text jaebum sends him and instead, calls jinyoung. the latter picks up after three rings.
"hey jae," the older greets him softly.
"hyung, i need your help with something."
"you don't sound good. did something happen? is it related to jaebum?" jinyoung asks, concern lacing his voice.
"how did you know?" youngjae raises an eyebrow, surprised.
"my motherly instinct," jinyoung jokes, making the younger chuckle.
"yeah right. it is related to jaebum."
"tell me everything i need to know."
so he does. he tells him about his little reunion with his ex boyfriend and how angry jaebum was. he also tells him how the latter has been acting lately.
"minhyun is still alive?" jinyoung sighs, remembering how bad their breakup was.
"unfortunately," youngjae sighs. "and he really pushed jaebum's buttons so now i feel like he's more of a bodyguard than a boyfriend."
"he feels insecure," jinyoung says after a while.
"insecure? how can he feel insecure? he's everything i could've ever asked for!" youngjae exclaims, confused.
"i think he feels like he can lose you at any time and it scares him so he wants to keep you as close as possible," the older male explains.
youngjae stays silent for a while, lost in his own thoughts. for some reason, it makes his heart flutter. does jaebum really care about him so much that he feels insecure when he shouldn't be? does jaebum love him? youngjae can't help but smile a bit at the mere thought.
"do you really think so?"
"that's how i see it. i may not know him that well but i'm good at observing people," jinyoung chuckles a bit.
"thank you, hyung. i don't know what i would do without you. i love you," the younger says, smiling.
"love you too," his friend says back before telling him to talk it out with jaebum and hanging up.
youngjae feels his heart a bit lighter now that he has an idea of why jaebum is acting that way.
"dumbass."

the next day, jaebum unsurprisingly shows up at youngjae's with a little gift. when youngjae opens the door, he faces a giant white teddy bear and a bouquet of flowers. the shock is clearly written all over his face as his boyfriend's head appears. jaebum looks a bit sheepish and youngjae would find that adorable but he remembers he's a bit mad at the older.
"hi," the latter tries with a small smile.
youngjae stays silent as he lets him come in. jaebum clears his throat and goes inside before turning to the younger. he hands him the bouquet and the stuffed animal, worrying his lip.
"i'm sorry."
youngjae takes the stuffed animal and the flowers to hide the smile threatening to appear on his face.
"i don't want you to be mad at me. it's just that seeing your ex touching you and having the nerves to be friendly with you made me very angry... you're my boyfriend after all," jaebum looks down, looking like a puppy who got reprimanded.
"that's still not a reason to act this possessive. i'm not an object that you just own, you know," the younger retorts, trying to stay serious.
"i know, i know. i'm sorry to act like that. please forgive me, i promise i'll try to be less possessive. please?" the older looks up at youngjae, hope in his eyes.
the younger pretends to think about it for a while before dropping the bear and the flowers (he'll take care of that later) and grabs jaebum by his collar, pulling him into a kiss. the older stays frozen because of the suddenness of it but quickly kisses youngjae back, wrapping his arm around his boyfriend's hips. the latter circles his arms around jaebum's neck, letting himself drown into the softness of jaebum's lips. they break the kiss a bit after and stare into each other's eyes.
"i'm with you and no one else. and i'm not going anywhere unless you give me a reason to, okay?" youngjae whispers, stroking jaebum's cheeks with his thumbs.
"you promise?"
"i promise," the younger hugs him tightly, burrying his face into the crook of his neck. "you're such an idiot."
'but it's okay. i love you anyway,' he thinks with a smile.
