I wake up late the next morning after the party and the hookup with Mitchell. At 9:00 AM.
I jump up, gasping. Weird thing is that I'm lying in the bed in the guest room. The last waking moment was last night in the bathtub, which is so romantic but gross.
There are 2 things on my mind:
1. Crap, it's 9 in the freaking morning, and school started an hour ago.
2. Where did Mitchell go? When did he leave me?
I crawl out of the bed, tuck my cold, bare feet into my fuzzy slippers, and walk out of the guest room.
Hoping Eva is still home (she'd better not go to school without telling me - if she did, I'll whoop her ass!), I enter her room.
Thankfully, I find her sound asleep in her bed.
I literally jump on her bed and yell, "WAKE UP, EVA KATHERINE SMITH, YOU BITCH!"
She sits up and glares at me.
"What the fuck did you do that for?" She groans.
I point to her clock. "It's 9:10."
"Ah, shit."
"Yeah, that's why you shouldn't have had a party on a school night." I tell her, rolling my eyes, sitting at the foot of her bed across from her.
"Ugh, don't lecture me, okay?"
"Well, I don't know how we're gonna get to school because we missed our bus and we can't drive and it's too far away to walk."
"Well, I guess that calls for a day off." Eva says, shrugging her shoulders carelessly. I know that she's secretly glad that we get to stay home.
I grin. "All right, let's just stay home then."
"So did you sincerely enjoy the party last night?" She asks me.
I nod my head. "Yes. I had a ton of fun there."
"Did you do anything special?" She asks me with a smirk.
I giggle, knowing what she's referencing to. "Um, you answer first."
"I almost went all the way with Jonathan Hughes."
"Ooh, really?!"
Jonathan Hughes is Eva's boyfriend. He's a sophomore and already 16 years old and in Eva's Government class. They've been dating for 3 months now (since New Years Eve).
"Yeah. But we stopped because we don't feel ready to have sex yet. I mean, I'm only 15 and a 1/2 and he's just turned 16 and we haven't dated that long yet."
"That's a wise move."
"Honestly, though, I really, really do want to have sex with him. I bet he does, too."
I smile sympathetically. "I bet. But, honestly, that's your hormones talking."
"Yeah, you're probably right." She agrees. "So, did you do anything with a guy? Not just at the party necessarily, but anytime."
I hesitate. I don't know what to say to her. I'm sure she wouldn't be thrilled to hear about me hooking up with her brother. She'd freak out, at the very least.
"Nope," I reply.
"Oh. I thought you did last night."
"Really? What made you think that?"
"I don't know. Instinct. Obviously, it proved me wrong." She chuckles.
I chuckle, feeling bad and guilty for lying to her. "I'll kiss a guy or make love with a guy someday."
"I know you will. You're beautiful." Eva says, smiling.
"Aww thanks." I say.
I look at myself in her mirror, which hangs on the wall adjacent to the closet door.
I guess I'm somewhat pretty. I don't know about beautiful, though. My hair falls to just below my chest and it's a dark brown shade; it's naturally straight but, most of the time, I either curl it or put it in a bun. My eyes are shaped like almonds and it's blue-green, which is an odd but okay-looking contrast to my dark brown hair. My skin is extremely fair; I swear that I'm the whitest girl ever. My lips are naturally pink and thick and it looks like I'm wearing lipstick.
Honestly I don't think I'm beautiful. I'm just average. Awkward almost. I'm tall for my age, 5'9. I'm skinny, 110 pounds.
But Eva's compliment means a lot to me.
"You're way more beautiful than I am," I admit to Eva.
"Oh, come on." Eva scoffs.
"It's true!" I insist.
Eva has shoulder-length, wavy, platinum blonde hair, dark brown eyes, and naturally tan skin all year long. She's petite, only 5'3, and carries the perfect weight, 100 pounds.
"Okay, fine, we're both the prettiest girls in town," Eva gives in, giggling.
"No, in the state," I correct, giggling.
"In the country!"
"In the WORLD!"
We fall backwards, laughing so hard, we're almost out of breath.
"Thanks for being my best friend," I whisper in Eva's ear.
"And thank you for being my best friend," She whispers in my ear.
We hug each other and stare at the ceiling silently.
I just hope Eva will never find out about me and Mitchell having sex.
