For some reason, I have a feeling that something wrong is going to happen to me. I can't explain it really well. It's as if there's somebody in my body pinching me and whispering to me, "Hey, ___ and ___ is gonna happen." I'm silently freaking out inside.
"Happy birthday!" I hear Eva yell at 6:00 the next morning.
I jump back in surprise. "Thanks!" I grin.
I thank her with a big, warm hug. She kisses me on the cheek.
"I can't believe you're 15," She says in awe and shaking her head.
"Shush, you sound like my mom," I tease her.
"Ha ha, very funny." Eva is obviously sarcastic.
I crawl of bed and tell her, "Now let me get ready for school."
"You mean, hell?" She corrects me.
"Yep. Now go!"
"Okay, yeah, you totally have the right to kick out of MY guest room in MY house." Eva jokes, running out the room, laughing.
"It's my birthday, I get to be mean, so ha ha!" I joke, laughing, and shutting the door.
I shake my head and laugh. That girl is crazy but I love her.
I take a shower, get dressed in a black tank top and gray skinny jeans and black criss-cross, slightly heeled sandals, put on a bright yellow beaded necklace and bright yellow stud earrings and a bright yellow beaded bracelet on each wrist, and do my hair and makeup.
By 6:55, I'm ready.
I head to the kitchen for breakfast.
"When are your parents coming home?" I ask Eva as I put 2 Pop Tarts in the toaster.
"Tomorrow, I think." She replies as she puts cereal in a bowl of milk.
"Oh." The pop tarts come up, warm and toasted, ready to eat.
I love Eva's parents; they're like my 2nd set of parents. Their names are Dylan and Gina. They are both successful, rich businesspeople; they're bankers and they own 100 banks all over the country and they make 300 billion dollars per year! They're busy and always out of town, so Eva and Mitchell has always been by themselves. But they're still really involved in their kids' lives and really supportive and encouraging of them.
As of right now, they're setting up 5 new banks in Canada, and they've been in Canada for 2 weeks now.
"I miss Mom and Dad," Eva confesses sadly as we sit down and eat.
"Sorry," I apologize sympathetically.
"I feel like their jobs are more important than me and Mitchell."
"I'm sure that's not true."
"It is. They're always gone. They're only home about a month at a time and they leave home for another 2 weeks."
"Well, they're just trying to build a better life for you and Mitch."
"Cassie, we live in the richest neighborhood in Dover, and we live in the biggest, nicest mansion in that particular neighborhood. They get to pay for both of our college tuitions. They bought Mitchell a Honda S2000 for his 16th birthday. They can buy anything and everything for us. They already provided a wonderful life."
"Okay, I agree with you. They probably do care more about their work than their children. But they still love you."
"Yeah, I know. I'm just saying that I miss them. And, of course, Mitchell doesn't care."
