On March 18, 2011, I'm going to turn 15 years old, which is unbelievable. What's even more unbelievable is that I forgot that tomorrow is my 15th birthday.
"EVA!" I exclaim at noon. She and I are eating Ramen noodles in the living room, watching some old, unknown TV show.
"What?!" Eva exclaims even louder just to be obnoxious.
"Guess what day is tomorrow?"
"St. Patrick's Day?"
"No, that's today."
"Um, Arbor Day?"
"No, that's in April."
"Hmmm....oh, yeah, your birthday!" Eva shouts, finally getting it.
"Yeah!" I say, relieved that she didn't forget.
"So what do you wanna do for your special day?"
"I don't even know. But definitely not a party. I'm already worn out by parties." I chuckle.
"Okay, but we must celebrate somehow." Eva points out.
"I know, I know. Umm. How about you and me go to McDonald's to eat then shop at the mall afterwards?" I suggest.
"Great idea, Cassie. Let's do that after school."
"All right!" I agree optimistically.
Eva and I chill out for the rest of the afternoon, watching movies, painting each others' nails, and gossiping about school and celebrities.
Before we know it, it's 4:15, and Mitchell arrives home.
"Hey there, peeps," He greets with a dramatic entrance.
He and I make eye contact. I can tell that there's an awkward tension between us.
I study Mitchell's looks. I never noticed how cute and attractive he is. He looks nothing like Eva; he has red brown, curly hair, bright green eyes, freckles on his chubby but adorable cheeks, and lips that are smooth as fuck. The reason he doesn't look like Eva is because he's the splitting image of his dad and Eva is the splitting image of her mom.
I've never been attracted to Mitchell before last night. I mean, he's my best friend's brother; in a way, he's kind of like my brother. He's almost 18 years old (his 18th birthday is next Friday, March 24) and a senior at the same high school as Eva and I go to (Dover High School). I've known him ever since I was 4 and he was 7.
Why did Mitchell come up to me and allure me and have sex with me? Did he like me more than his sister's best friend? How long did he have those feelings towards me?
Do I like him now? Is he my crush? I'm not sure. Yeah, I had sex with him, but that didn't mean I liked him. I don't know why I gave in and lost my virginity to him. Honestly, the sex wasn't that great. I regret it actually.
"Hey, bro," Eva greets back, hitting Mitch with a fist bump.
"Hey, Mitch," I wave my hand, my lips curled into a slight smile.
Mitchell doesn't break off his eye contact with me for some reason. I guess he's thinking about what happened last night at the party.
My cheeks turn into a bright red color; tomatoes are lighter than my current skin color. I feel a lump passing through my throat as if there's a rock or 2 stuck in it. Then I start to sweat; my pits and hands and feet are soaked in perspiration.
Screw.
My.
Anxiety!
"Are you okay, Cass?" Eva asks me. Judging by her facial expression, she looks concerned.
"I'm...I'm fine." I lie.
"Uh-huh." Eva murmurs, not believing me at all.
"I'm FINE!" I insist.
"Okay, OKAY!" Eva says agitatedly, standing back, putting his hands up.
"You should leave her alone, Eva," Mitchell advises her. "I need to talk to her about something, anyway."
"Okay," Eva doesn't persist. She exits the living room.
Mitchell sits next to me on the couch. Our legs are touching each other. There's a spark of electricity between us.
"So what did you think of the sex we had last night?" He asks me straight away.
I gasp. I cover his mouth with my hand and admonish, "Shush. You don't want Eva to hear us talking about you-know-what."
"Oh. Sorry. Um, well, anyway, what did you think of it?"
"I...I liked it. I mean, I didn't expect it or anything. But it was a nice surprise." I say honestly with a smile.
"That's good. I loved it."
"So have you had a crush on me all these years or what?"
He ponders. "Well, yeah. At first, I thought you were this cute little kid. But ever since I was 14 and you were 11, I had a big crush on you, and I dreamed about dating you and making love with you."
I smile. That's so sweet. "Wow, I had no idea."
"Yeah, I waited until now because we're both older and everything." He admits. "And I couldn't hide my true feelings about you."
I nod. "Yeah, that's understandable."
"So, do you like me?" He asks.
I ponder. "Well, I never really paid attention to you before last night, but ever since after we did it, I never stopped thinking about you." I pause for a moment then start talking again. "And, well, yeah, I guess I like you too."
Mitchell beams. Not smile, not grin. He beams.
I beam too. I never felt this happy before.
"Here's an early birthday gift for you," Mitchell declares.
He leans in slowly and slowly kisses me on my lips.
I kiss him back and whisper, "That's a great gift, Mitch."
"I'm glad you appreciate it."
I giggle. Then I grow serious. "So, um, should we tell Eva about this?"
"I'm not sure. I don't think she'd be happy. I mean, our relationship is kind of weird."
"I totally agree with you."
"Let's just wait and see, okay?"
"Okay. Yeah, let's do that. It's only been a day, after all."
Unbeknowest to Mitchell and I, Eva had been in the hallway near the living room, her back laid against the wall, and she eavesdropped our entire conversation.
