Queenie, Tina, and Jacob pushed their way through to the front of the Aurors. The no-maj was the one carrying Newt's case. Queenie went up to Myra and hugged her. Tina just stared in confusion at Credence, who had hidden himself as well as he could behind the blonde.
"Credence?"
The obscurial looked up from his wand and up at the witch. He looked both happy and grateful. Myra smiled a small smile, he would be safe while she went to talk to the president.
She passed by Newt, who was talking to Jacob, and went up to the MACUSA president, "I think that we should probably talk, Madam President."
The witch turned a hard eye on the shorter blonde, "Yes. We should."
"I promised him that I would keep him safe," Myra's voice was equally as stiff.
"He is dangerous, and we cannot have an obscurial living among us," Madam Piquery told her, "and why would you give him a wand? That could only make things worse."
"Or better," Myra propositioned, "If I have my facts straight, obscurials are created by suppressing magic. I can teach him to use it and eventually his obscurus should go away."
"And if it doesn't?" the witch challenged.
"Then it doesn't, and he'll die on his own," Myra admitted, "but I won't let that happen."
"You had better not."
The wandmaker gave the woman a sharp nod of thanks and went to go stand next to the five on the outskirts of the platform. Madam Piquery addressed the group as she stared through the broken roof of the subway station and into the world outside,
"We owe you an apology, Mr. Scamander. But the magic community is exposed! We cannot Obliviate an entire city."
A beat passed, "Actually, I think we can."
Myra looked at her Echo incredulously, but soon decided that she'd better stop being surprised by him, after all she didn't know everything yet. There were always more stories to be told.
Newt placed his case on the ground underneath the huge hole in the subway roof, and opened it. Suddenly, the thunderbird burst out in a flurry of feathers and gushes of wind- the crowd of aurors backed away. The creature was beautiful, mesmerizing but scary as he flapped his powerful wings and hovered above them.
Newt moved forward- examining the creature, a look of real tenderness and pride on his face, "I was intending to wait until we got to Arizona, but it seems like now you are our only hope, Frank."
Newt reached out his arm and Frank pressed his beak lovingly into the embrace. Myra's heart clenched in sadness as they nuzzled each other affectionately, the thunderbird was clearly very fond of the wizard.
"I'll miss you too," her Echo stepped back, taking a flask of what Newt had previously told her was swooping evil venom from his pocket, "You know what you've got to do."
Newt threw the vial high up into the air and Frank let out a sharp cry, catching it in his beak and immediately soaring out of the subway. And it began to rain.
Newt turned to address everyone as the roof of the subway was swiftly repaired, "They won't remember anything. That venom has incredibly powerful Obliviative properties."
Madam Piquery looked impressed, "We owe you a great debt, Mr. Scamander. Now- get that case out of New York."
"Yes, Madam President."
Madam Piquery began to walk away, her pack of aurors moving with her. Suddenly, she turned back. Queenie seemed to know what the woman was thinking as she stood protectively in front of Jacob, trying to hide him.
"Is that no-maj still here?" the witch asked, "Obliviate him. There can be no exceptions."
A wave of sadness washed over Myra, Jacob was a good man, and unlike most no-majs, he was calm when anything magical happened. He could keep the secret, couldn't he?
"I'm sorry-" Madam Piquery actually sounded sorry, "but even one witness... you know the law."
The president seemed to be uncomfortable with the group's distress, "I'll let you say good-bye," and with that she left.
I hope you all have a wonderful week, and I'll see you all again on Friday! :)
