CHAPTER TWELVE | TWO BASTARDS

Sherlock had printed out the photographs of the graffiti near and across Sir William's portrait and had stuck them around the mirror above the fireplace. He was sitting on one of the dining chairs with his back to the dining table. He had his fingers under his chin and was staring at the photos while various symbols flashed in front of his mind's eyes.

His eyes flicked towards the younger girl for a second, she had her eyes closed but she wasn't sleeping, he could conclude that she was in her mind palace just like him... now that he thought about it, he would have to ask her what was his room like in her mind. She was sitting on the chair next to him and all night, both had perfected the profile of the assassin to then continue with the symbols and just maybe try to figure out what the symbols meant.

John walked in from the landing and dropped his jacket onto his armchair.

"I said, "Could you pass me a pen?" without looking around Sherlock said.

Hella opened her eyes while John looked around the living room as if expecting that Sherlock was talking to someone else and for a moment he thought he was talking to the brown haired girl on the chair but he wasn't. He did notice before he left that she was there, of course, she had spent the night in the flat. Both, Sherlock and her were always so dedicated in the cases.

"What?" John asked confused "When?"

Sherlock answered "Bout an hour ago.

John sighed "Didn't notice I'd gone out, then."

He picked up a pen from the table beside his chair and, without even looking at Sherlock, tossed the pen in his direction. Sherlock lifted his left hand and catch it without looking away from the photographs on the wall. John walked over to the mirror to look more closely at the photos "Yeah, I went to see about a job at that surgery."

"How was it?" the consulting detective asked.

John answered absently "It's great. She's great."

"Who?"

"The job" the doctor corrected quickly.

"'She'?" Hella asked arching her eyebrow.

"It" John said slowly.

Sherlock looked at him suspiciously for a moment then jerked his head to his right "Here, have a look" he walked over to the table and looked at the web page on the open computer. The lead article on the 'Online News' page was headlined, "Ghostly killer leaves a mystery for police."

Next to it was a photograph of the bald man, and the article read: An intruder who can walk through walls murdered a man in his London apartment last night. Brian Lukis, 41, a freelance journalist from Earl's Court was found shot in his fourth-floor flat but all his doors and windows were locked and there were no apparent signs of a break in. A police spokesman said they are still uncertain how the assailant broke in...
