"This is not what it looks like.” Tanya said, pulling away from him.
“Really? It looks like your tongue was down his throat. What were you doing? Searching for something down there?” I said angrily, multiple thoughts overcoming me.
“The thing is, Angela, I really like Tanya and asked her to be my girlfriend. That’s one of the reasons why I’ve been hanging out with you so much, to get to know your friend.” Zach explained grimly and clouds of doubt shifted from me.
“Yeah!” Ashley piped up.
I felt anger, hurt, rejection, confusion, and finally…
Happiness. For her.
Tanya really deserved a great guy and Zach was nothing but one. Besides, I didn’t feel jealousy so I knew I never had those kind of feelings for him.
So what the hell was wrong with me for being mad at them?
I replaced the frown on my face with a smile and hugged Tanya.
“Oh, Tanya. You could have told me about this! I’m so happy for you.” I pulled her away and hugged Zach.
“You’re such an idiot for hiding this from me.” I smiled at him.
Shock was written on both their faces.
“I never thought… thought.. You’d… accept…. This!” Zach faltered and Tanya nodded.
I just grinned.
“Angela rocks!” Ashley shouted and slumped down.
With great difficulty I caught her and managed to hold her still.
“How much did she drink?” I groaned while Zach held her piggyback style.
“I’ll drop her home.” Zach offered and I nodded.
“I’ll come too. You’ll need someone to explain things to her mom.” Tanya said and they left, leaving me all alone again.
I was starting to hate this party now.
Again, I walked around like a loser trying to find someone to hang with. I spotted Miyuki, my drama class partner in the distance and went towards her when I bumped into someone.
“Watch where you’re going, loser.”
“Sorry,” I averted my gaze from her and began walking away.
“You really don’t know what you’re doing. Do you really want me to make your life hell?” she raised an eyebrow.
“Sorry, I won’t get in your way next time.” I tried to go but she held my arm, her nails digging into it. It really hurt.
“Oops,” she giggled and tipped her drink on me, ruining my dress.
I stared in horror as she emptied her entire glass, staining my dress really badly. I could barely manage holding my tears.
“Shame,” she finished. “That was a really pretty dress even though it didn’t suit you. Oh well, now you know not to mess with me.” She let go of me and sauntered away towards Taylor Lautner.
A tear slipped down my cheek. I quickly brushed it away, not letting anyone see my weakness. I went out of the party, deciding to go home.
I held a hand out for a taxi when someone pulled it back.
“Stop,” I gazed into his chocolate brown eyes, which could only belong to one person – Jake.
“I’m going home.” I told him, trying to pull my hand out of his grip.
“Who did this to you?” he stared at the brown stain on my dress.
“I dropped a drink. Goodbye.”
“And this? Surely you didn’t dig your own nails into your arm?” his fingers ran over the red nail marks on my arm.
“Goodbye Jake.” I ignored his question.
“I’m going to find out who did this to you? No one messes with my best friend.”
“You really wanna know Jake? It was your girlfriend. I never should have come here. I don’t belong here,” tears were falling fast. “I should have sat home instead of showing up here. Now I’ll be ruining everybody’s good time. I never should have-“ he cut me off, pulling me into a hug.
I took in his pine cum mint smell and sighed, trying to stop the tears.
“It’s alright Angela. Don’t blame yourself for everything. And you never will stop sniffing me will you?” he chuckled.
I pushed him away and despite being sad, I laughed.
“Gross.” I told him.
“Let me drop you home now. And give that dress to the laundry straight away. I don’t want it getting ruined.” He said, taking my hand and walking towards the parking lot.
I smiled; the dress really was special for him.
We drove in silence and as we neared my house, he said, “I’m going to break up with her on Monday.”
“What? No! Don’t let me get in between your relationship Jake!” I cried.
“I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately so don’t blame yourself. Besides, nothing.” He sighed.
“What? Besides what?” I asked.
“Tell me Jakey!” I persisted.
“Alright! I like someone else!”
“What? Who? How? When? And you are telling this to me now?” I was jumping in my seat.
“I’ll tell you when the time is right. Now go home.” He opened the car door and pushed me out, driving away.
What a gentleman, I thought as I walked into my house.
Trying to avoid my mom, I ran into my room, took off my dress, soaked it in hot water and put on my favorite jammies and went off to sleep, trying not to think about all the drama that would happen on Monday.
