"Wow," I exclaimed as I joined Jake and Lucy backstage. They were surrounded by other people who badgered them with questions. Since there was no way I could meet them in the crowd, I stood behind, nudging Ryan who stood beside me.
"Wanna tell me what just happened?" I raised an eyebrow at him and he looked at me innocently.
"What? You saw what happened along with everyone else!" He said, but I wasn't convinced.
"Oh come on Ryan! Why do I get the feeling you knew what was going to happen before-hand?" I pressed on. He sighed.
"Fine," he muttered. "You caught me." He shrugged.
"Tell me!" I whined, my impatience getting the better of me.
"Okay, so um, Jake called me one day out of the blue and asked me if I would help him in catching the person. I said, 'why not?' But I was a little skeptical. I mean, the most popular guy of school calls me all of a sudden and I have no clue how he got my number!" He took a breath and continued. "But I said yes anyway, because I figured he had no hidden motives. I mean you are his girlfriend and I know you're decent, plus he hadn't done anything wrong. Anyway, we got in touch a couple of times to catch the culprit, without you knowing."
"Why wasn't I supposed to know?" I interrupted him and he scowled.
"Well you did tell him that you were going to sort this out yourself and didn't need his help right?" This time it was his turn to raise an eyebrow and I held up a hand, urging him to continue.
"Yeah, so we thought about what to do and stuff, and he told me although he had his suspicions on Wendy he was guessing it could have been some jealous girl from her group. He said that he was good friends with some of them, and would set the culprit up. But we didn't know how to get proof because you know," he eyed the principal who was in deep conversation with Jake and Lucy. I nodded, my interest piqued.
He sighed. "That's when that punk photographer chick Lucy popped up. Jake told her everything and requested her to set up a hidden camera in that Molly girl's bag. Yep, Molly was in on this too. Apparently Jake knows her well. Your boyfriend is something, I tell you," he chuckled and I broke out into a smile.
Yeah, he was.
"So Molly confronted Reagan and she was set up. That other popular dude Jake is always hanging out with, Zach, broke into the recording room and convinced the student sitting there to set up the video." He finished and I whistled.
"Wooow," I sighed. "And I never even realised that all you people had formed a little group. Nice job!" I patted him on the back.
So, this unlikely group consisting of Jake, Zach, Ryan, Lucy and Molly had worked together to help us all. Damn.
"Wait, so how did you'll know it was Reagan?" I asked him.
"We didn't. Molly carried out a similar conversation with all the girls till we hit the culprit." He grinned.
"I've gotta say, you guys make good detectives." I smiled and he scoffed.
He turned briefly and stuck a thumb out sideways.
"Principal is done with them. You should go." He said, indicating Jake and Lucy. I nodded and turned to go, but before I did so, I gave him a quick hug.
"Thanks," I smiled and then went to meet Jake and Lucy.
"That was quite a show." I said as I finally joined them. Jake swung an arm around my shoulder, not caring that the principal was practically two metres away.
"You like it?" He winked at me. I nodded vigorously.
"Thanks," I looked at him, and then Lucy who stood there awkwardly, "both of you." I added, and she gave me a small smile. I went over to her and hugged her.
"Why did you do this for me?" I asked her. "How can I make it up to you?"
"Look, Angela, I'd promised you a while ago that I'd do anything to mend what I had done before. Again, I'm sorry for betraying you and befriending Wendy, but I realised my mistake. And when Jake approached me for this, I knew I had to do this." She explained and her face lit up.
"I told you, you don't have to apologise, and really, thank you so much Lucy, I'm glad I have you for a friend." I said and her cheeks reddened visibly, clearly indicating that she felt embarrassed with the compliment. I giggled and punched her playfully on the shoulder.
"Look at you, all red like a tomato." I teased her and she mock-glared me.
"I wasn't red when I was on stage was I?" She shot and I laughed.
"Nope, you were blue." I joked and she groaned, but eventually broke out into a chuckle.
"You should have seen my legs there. They were like toothpicks." She shuddered.
"I could see them." Jake joined in.
"Well, you were a natural, walking on the stage like you owned it." I told him. He shrugged, brushing off some invisible dirt from his shoulder.
"Ah well," he said proudly and I laughed again.
"Lucy!" Someone from the crowd shouted out, and I turned to see that it was her parents. I waved at them and they waved back.
"Sorry, I'll have to go, talk to you later." She said and hopped away to meet her parents.
I looked at Jake.
He looked at me suspiciously.
"You're not going to start with one of your 'it's my problems, I'll deal with it' talk now will you?" He said and I stifled a laugh.
"On the contrary, I want to tell you something else. But not here." I tugged at his sleeve, leading him out of the room, into the hallway. We walked till I found a spot where I was pretty sure we wouldn't run into anybody, it was secluded. I felt a strange excitement bubble inside me as I pulled him into a corner.
"Hi," I whispered, standing a hair's breath away from him. He looked at me through his eyelashes.
"I love you." Was all I said before crashing my lips on his, pulling him closer with the collar of his shirt with one hand, while the other hand wove around his neck, running through his hair. A soft, barely inaudible moan left him as he kissed me back, his large hands gripping my waist. It was encouragement for me to go further.
I kissed him harder, feeling his hot breath on me, sending a million tingles down my spine every passing second. Just when I couldn't breathe any longer I broke out, heart threatening to break out of my chest.
Taking deep breaths, I slowly opened my eyes. His chest was heaving, and my palm on it told me his heart felt the same way. I smiled.
His eyes were still closed when he tipped my chin upward and kissed me again, this time not as fervently, but gentle and light as a feather. He pulled back and finally opened his eyes.
"Now that's a talk I'm talking about." He said, voice husky, making me feel hot. I wanted to kiss him so hard again, feel his rock hard chest under my palms and his tongue playing with mine...
Wait, was this what being horny felt like?
I smiled, biting my lip.
"Thanks," I whispered and he shut me up by kissing me again, and I gladly abided.
We kissed for a long time, and I could feel every second slow down, feel every feeling, and if I could stop time, this would be the moment.
Just then my stupid phone chose to ring, completely ruining the moment. We both let out audible sighs, and I was tempted to cut the call but the caller ID said it was my mom.
"Shit." I muttered and I hastily clicked the answer button, bringing the phone to my ear.
"Where are you? Shows over and we can't find you!" My mom roared through the phone and I grimaced.
"Sorry mom," I apologised. "I got side-tracked a little." I looked at Jake, and he winked at me.
"Well dad and I are waiting for you outside school, we are planning to go out for dinner with the Summers." She said and I looked at Jake again.
"Oh really?" I exclaimed.
"Speaking of them, have you seen Jake anywhere? His parents can't seem to find him too. If you see him tell him to call his parents okay? Bye!" My ended the call and I had to break out into a small chuckle.
I explained the situation to Jake and he sniggered too, then grabbing my hand, lead me out, into the hallway, and we joined our parents outside school.
"Oh good you found him!" Jake's mother said as she saw us approaching.
"That was quite a show you put up there young man." Jake's father patted him on his back. I smiled, I was really lucky that I had Jake.
We went for dinner at a quaint Italian place not far from home, and over dinner, I couldn't get rid of this feeling that made me bubble with happiness.
Everything had turned out well, Wendy was declared innocent, I had fully and completely mended my relationship with Lucy and I loved Jake more than ever.
I cursed myself for ever thinking that he was taking everything in his own hands, and I was glad that he did. I was thankful for him, and for Zach, Lucy, and all my friends.
I was one lucky teenager.
